I wouldn’t recommend a reproduction fender tag. Future buyers may have some doubt about the authenticity of said car. Just my opinion.

I wouldn’t recommend a reproduction fender tag. Future buyers may have some doubt about the authenticity of said car. Just my opinion. If I understand the original posters statement they have one of the original build sheets that the reproduction fender tag would be made off of. The build sheet shows more than the fender tag ever did as to how the car was built. As long as the build sheet stays with the car it shows how the car was built originally. Documentation (the build sheet) on the car is what's key above everything else. With that said, personally I don't give a rats azz whether a car has a fender tag or not. I either like a car or I don't, I'd rather see a day two or modified car that someone has made their own every time. I'll leave the whole date coded matching numbers thing to someone else that's usually in it for the "potential investment value".
Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

Why "no fender tag vs. repo"? There is supposed to be a tag there. It would be like popping the hood and having no air cleaner or no radiator shroud around the fan. It looks like something is missing.
If the guy isn't selling the car and has the original build sheet, I don't see the big deal. It isn't a rare hemi car or 6 pack. It is a 73 Challenger. He can have one made if he wants, but the general consensus here is that no tag is better than a repro tag. Even with the broadcast sheet it probably won't duplicate his missing tag. There was no rhyme or reason to some of the codes that did or didn't make it onto the tag. And I believe he'll have to guess at the SPD and the VON.

Every time this topic comes up it's the same thing. Those thundering that only the original will do and those who disagree. You could have a photo of the original, or a rusted out original tag, and there are those who would not accept a duplicate tag using either of these as guidance. My thought, if someone is thinking about a reproduction tag, do it and don't tell anyone you did it. 95% of people can't tell the difference and the other 5% are too damn close.

Neither the broadcast sheet nor the fender tag are definitive proof of what actually came on the car. The broadcast is simply a list for production to go by for some options. The fender tag is just there so that dealer service or body shops can quickly identify parts needed for repair. Neither was ever intended to validate the correctness of a 50 year old car.
That said, if you really need a reproduction fender tag a google search for 'reproduction fender tag' will bring up the main suppliers. I don't know who's are the most the accurate appearing. When/if you sell the car I would remove the tag or make absolutely sure in writing that the purchaser is aware that it does not have the correct original tag. You want to make sure that someone three owners from now can't claim that you committed fraud with the intent to misrepresent the value of the car.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Maybe I'll get a tag that says 'WHO CARES?'
Or maybe 'IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER AND SO WHAT IF IT DID'.

We have the original fender tag for my son's Dart convertible, but I prefer this one...
Especially considering the engine, transmission type, paint color, wheels, brakes, and rear end have all been changed...

If he's doing a Full-Blown 100% Documented Judged type car then really NO. Otherwise just get the repro: it'll just "complete" underhood layout. I'd like to know the % of Mopars out there that have no-tag or repros on them. Probably a substantial amount.
