I heard a rumor that the true 3" (leaving no gap) readily available reproduction polished #3461243 15x7" Mopar Rallye Wheel Trim Rings (correct for 1970 models) which are relatively cheap and available can be made into the more rare and not reproduced #3461222 1971-73, 15x7" Brushed style 3" wide trim rings. This is supposedly not a hard process to do by spinning the wheel on the car using the correct device to create the brushed appearance on a polished style ring which is also a stainless steel trim ring like the #3461222 1971-73, 15x7" Brushed style. (Not like the ridiculous looking ones on the Classic Industries website). Has anyone heard of this process and might be able to point me into right direction on getting a correct looking set like the original #3461222 1971-73 15x7" Brushed 3" wide style trim rings? I'd like to find someone who is experiences at doing this process, and can produce a very nice finished product. Thank You! Chris Evans 937-270-6120.
Or, respond to this ad and PM me to get my e-mail to send pictures of examples you might have.

The outter lip of a #3461222 is supposed to remain polished with only the center of the trim ring having the Brushed appearance. See picture:
The brushed trim rings on the Classic Industries website (which are totally incorrect) should never be put on a car trying to immitate a true #3461222 1971-73, 15x7" Brushed style 3" wide trim ring. See Classic Industries picture:

Where can I find the polished wheel trim rings? I need for a 70 Cuda that I am restoring for a friend.
As for getting the brushed finish, I think it can be acheived on a balancing machine and some scotch brite or sanding paper. I did some pinstriping on a CJ Jeep wheel mounted on a balanching machine, and it was fairly easy.

Look at the Eastwood polishing rouges.

Just a guess but the first step rouge may get you the finish you want, spin the ring mounted on a donor wheel while holding a long buffing wheel spinning in a drill motor against the ring.

A junker ring as your test surface.

I’m in the same shoes on my 71, original rings but need a little touch up. This is my plan.

I am also interested in doing this, I have a set of polished 3" rings but my car is a 71. I would like to investigate brushing the inside of the wheel.

There are no readily available true 3" trim rings (3461043 or 3461222) that I am aware of......polished or brushed. There are still some 2 3/4" rings with both part numbers around. I am pretty certain the only correct 3" rings were all made from 1969 to early 70's. After that it was the 2 3/4" ring that was available. The 3" rings are very hard to come by.

For $105 not a lot to lose by buying a set and trying to brush them yourself. However, if you are trying for an original look.....the Mopar crowd will spot those repop trim rings from 100 yards away. grin
