This is from a '69 Barracuda axle, 3.23, non Sure Grip. The last 3 digits of the assembly part number, listed in the build sheet, in this case "565", is upside down on the driver side, about 3" from the perch.

On the bottom side of the axle and immediately below the part number is the axle assembly build date, in this case illegible. Confusingly, what looks like a letter "L" and a "1" appear to be upside down to each other.

That illegible axle assembly build date would have been somewhere between the 3rd member assembly date of 10/23/68 and the actual build date of the car, about mid-November, 1968, since the car arrived at the dealer in late November. The SPD was 11/8/68.

This is a 1971 Duster with SPD 10/14/70. The 3rd member is dated A914, and the axle assembly date is 9-14U. The axle assembly date 9-14U looks to be in the same location as my '69 axle.

Here are two axle assembly date codes from other unknown cars, "5-13Z" and "2-16X", but the locations are different from the previous photos.

The only legible axle assembly date codes I know are:
9-14U 2-16X 5-13Z
So the pattern in these 3 cases is: month dash day followed by some alpha.

Here's more information from Mopar Connection magazine, except B- body. Axle assembly part number 077 from build sheet, stenciled near driver side perch. 3rd member assembly date 10-22. Axle assembly date code 10-24W, stenciled below part number.

AFAIK the axle code per the build sheet should be the last 3 digits of a 7 digit part number with no alpha. For example, on line 4, "REAR SPRINGS" the entry is "132", an abbreviation for 2835132, the part number of the spring assemblies. This is a factory only part number that will not appear in a parts counter book.
But I only have a '69 build sheet, not '72. My WAG is that "670" is the build sheet axle code, which would make the "H182" a head scratcher as far as a date code. 18th day of February?
In all examples above, the axle code is on the driver side of the car with no alpha. And the axle assembly date codes are also stenciled on the driver side, always with an alpha and a dash between the month and the day. It can also be said that the examples vary in their details, and that there are likely other cases that don't agree with these examples at all.
