Not sure if the junkyard core I have is going to be buildable so I’m preparing myself for buying a new block to do the 360 based stroker

I already have
Trick flow heads and intake
Using Harland sharp 1.5 rockers
Howard’s cam 600/600 245/253@ .050
Will be using steel crank, H beam rods forged pistons (10.5:1)

I’m hoping I could get a decent NEW SEASONED block for $1000 or so.

Where do you guys suggest is a good source for the block.

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by a new seasoned block? I don't think such a thing exists anymore if it ever did. You can find used blocks all over the place but typically you'll need to go at least 0.030 over. I had a couple of early (thick wall) 360 castings for sale a year or so ago. Took me a while to sell them. Nobody wanted to pay much for them so I kind gave up on the SB stuff.

Lots of 360 blocks out there from 50.00-350.00 if you start looking. Stock 360 cast cranks are plenty strong enough to produce some amazing ET’s at the track.

Your words about "new seasoned block" seems to be a contradiction. A seasoned engine is one that has been cycled, through years of use, with heating/cooling down cycles. Any 360 engine block you come across will be a "used" block. twocents

Some mega buck race teams have "seasoned" new blocks in the past, not sure if they still do these days or not. Some engineers use a vibration table to relax the internal stresses in new castings, other engineers have used heat cycles. Lots of old stories about NASCAR guys using different techniques for seasoning new blocks, not sure how many of them are true. I'm not aware of anyone currently offering new blocks which have been seasoned, relaxed or tempered or any other such treatment but it could be out there.

I think the only "seasoned" new block would of been the X and very very early plain lettered R blocks.

Look for a early-mid 70s motor junked motor home or B van with a 360 with say 40k miles, there is the "seasoned" block your wanting.

Then get ready for the sticker shock on the block machine work, good work is not cheap these days and you will have at least or more then 1k in buying core and having a good shop do all the proper machine work and fixing any tiny stroker kit or ootb head issues.

STOP POTATO HATE!
