On the drivers side of case 2801 261

Do you have picture? Normally part # followed by 4 digit 10K day calendar date, and a # built that period. Not sure what those other numbers you have. Are they cast or stamp #s?

Something is awry here.

If the last three numbers are like this:

3337888 - Part number
2801 - 10,000 day calendar Saturday, March 29, 1969
261 - unit assembled that day

This would indicate a late 1969 unit.

But that still doesn't look right. In 1969 all of the transmission part numbers started out with 28 or 29 and 3337888 (even 2801544) is not in the 1969 list. The 34 series part numbers didn't start until 1970. I wish I had my 1967 parts book handy.

Edit: Was driving me crazy. Found parts book, 2801544 is listed as "w/426 cu. in. Eng., Hemi, A727B" . So the 2801544 is the correct PN for a 1967 Hemi transmission. Pictures would be helpful to sort out the rest.

I am not disputing your Hemi part number, but you need to show a picture of the other numbers. Is the 3337888 all together or 3337 888. PLus the other numbers all on the driver side, where? Google the picture of a trans and you will see the typical orientation.

some of the '67 & earlier transmissions have a different date/unit number format - usually only 7-digits instead of the later models 8-digit

Yep that’s correct for 67 or 68 426 hemi according to my Chrysler lists.

Would love to see inside and see if it’s still got the wide drum.
All the 426 ans six pack trans I’ve taken apart, it’s Gone... whistling

Here is pics of my 67 date code Hemi transmission. If I am correct we both have transmissions correct for Mid year 68 Hemi Cars.

I believe your tranny is a Dec 22, 67

My understanding is that the 2 in front of the 338 is missing on all these trans. If this is true then this is the date code on these early trans.

Date code would really read 2338 and in the 10,000 day calender it would be the Dec 22, 67

My tranny is Dec 17, 67 Which would make both of these trans correct for a mid year 68 Hemi Car.
