My '69 A body 340 4-speed spring has 11 coils. It's way too manly IMHO. Note how it bent the bracket..

This is what the 1969 service manual shows. The hook belongs to 6 cyl. without the spring bracket. No hook for 8 cyl. with spring bracket. Note that the 8 cyl. clutch pedal turns on bearings, but the 6-cyl. turns on bushings. Both Brewer's photo and the O.P.'s photo shows 8 coils, not 11.
Brewer's catalog says their spring is "Not for heavy duty pedal assembly. Used with OCH777 over-center spring hook." Since the manual says the hook is 6-cylinder only, this implies the Brewer 8-coil spring is for non heavy duty 6-cylinder only. Note that Brewer's number for the hook is OCH777, and Mopar's part number is 226 777.
The 1969 parts book clearly shows that the hook, P.N. 2266 777, is for 6 cyl. and 273 only. It also shows two springs for 6-cyl. A body: Std. (2266 784) and Heavy Duty (2461 515). The 6-cylinder Heavy Duty spring also fits with 273 engine. A body V8s except 273 are another part number (2883 468). This implies the Brewer 8-coil spring is a copy of part number 2266 784 meant for 6-cylinder Std., not for 6-cylinder Heavy Duty, nor for 273, but also not for 318 nor 340, because the 318 and 340 don't use the hook.
All that being said, it may be that the Brewer 8-coil spring with hook is a better solution than the original 11-coil spring with bracket for 318 and 340. As I stated above, I always thought my 340 over-center spring was over kill.
