"turned off the ignition key"
I went to HS with a guy that did that trying to save gas going down a hill, he locked the wheel, hit a bridge abutment, broke both his legs, was lucky to have survived.
Everybody makes fun of a hillbilly until they need something fixed

Dude was lucky he wasn't killed, just looking at the damage to the car/roof caved in. How does one 'accidentally' turn the key off in any car let alone a drag car at 25 let alone 125? Sheeze.

There are now more vintage race car photo albums available to view with some great shots of some of the people behind the scenes. There are two new albums, the first one is from Dave and Suzie Koffel, the second one is from John Wehrly. Thanks to Dave, Suzie & John for providing photos from their collections and to Stewart and Mike for getting them scanned and uploaded for all of us to see! Here is the link; http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/vintageRacing/people.shtmlEnjoy! Barry

Wasn't that the car with the one-off set of cyl heads on it? Weslake heads I believe. Wonder if the original motor is still around with those heads on it. Probably worth a fortune.

What class(es) did the Colt Wagon run in? What c.i. was that motor in the pic of the Colt Wagon on the Hamtramck site? Just as an aside comment. The more I learn about and see what Mopar was doing back in the day and realizing that they were the smallest of the big 3, GM, Ford then Chrysler, it really shows just how good a central group of guys those were in the drag/NASCAR R&D side of things, Hoover, etal. GM in a purely monetary way could have buried Chrysler, even back then, being alot larger a company overall. For Mopar to have become so legendary performance wise back in the day was quite an accomplishment. And to think that as of '61-'62 no one involved in drag racing really wanted to run anything Mopar. I've heard numerous people say that over the years including Ronnie Sox. Beyond solid bunch of guys, engineers, engine builders, chassis guys et al.
