Not to try and hack this post , but I hear about the 16Volt batteries. How would that voltage effect 12 Volt wiring and lights ?? I have always stayed away from 16 volt stuff from lack of knowledge about it.. The only two things I changed were the voltage regulator to allow aprox 18.5 volt charging rate. And definitely had to lower the fuel pressure at the regulator. No need for a fancy starter that I can see. Doug

Wire has 2 main properties to consider, how much voltage potential versus wire insulation and how much current can the conductor handle. Most low voltage wire has no issue with 12-24 Volt. Next is current. Well Power =Volts times Amps. SO when you run at a higher voltage, you actually have lower current through wires for the same load. So your better off. As stated, the loads need to be ok with the new higher voltage. Alternator needs to charge the higher battery voltage.
So bulbs, coil relays, electronics like pumps, radio, motors would all need to be good with the higher voltage. Not an issue with a race car, but may have issues with accessories on a street car. But the wires will like it. Less current.

Thanks for the replies guys , I think I will stick with a 12 volt setup.. Has anybody had the problem like this ?? My car spins over just fine with big tub headers and exhaust on it. 11.5 to one small block . But once I take the pipes off it really hesitates to spin over even cold. Bucks like the timing is really high with the pipes off. Again sorry , not trying to hyjack this post..

I used to go to junkyards and buy them for 15.00 but now just ask for one that fits a 1995 V8 truck. You can tell the higher for lower horsepower starters just by looking at them. I used to know the measurement but like I said once you know what to look for you can tell

Will a stock starter work, in most cases yes. But if you read the title it says BEST starter not what will work/

And the best starter in the world won’t fix that. Some of the grounding I see out there is pathetic. And small azz power leads too.

And small azz power leads too. i have to agree with the wiring issue. from the key or button to the starter, don't skimp ! just going up one wire gauge size can sometimes make a HUGE difference. also, have as few connections as possible, and make sure those connections are clean and tight.

I just put the Powermaster Ultra Torque on my car this evening. Had the Master Torque on it. 14:1 alky engine with bushed rockers and lifters so its hard to turn over. Videos of the difference. Master Torque. VideoUltra Torque Video

I always ran Powermaster or Tilton starters with 16v charging system to easily crank over 14-15.1 motors. I had a contact at Powermaster who gave me great deals. Quality stuff.

I'm sure all these high end starters are nice. But the factory starters have given me zero trouble. 15-1 ignition on is no problem what so ever. So what does spending $300 gain? Doug My car hard starts since I bumped it to 14:1. Its alky injected too which doesnt help....Those videos I posted were with a 12volt battery. Will go to a 16 volt if the problem persists in the spring.
