This is why magazine writers are on the bottom of my favorite list. I "borrowed" this photo from one of the "MOPAR" magazines. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE DEVICE IN THE PHOTO IS ?? THE WRITER SURELY DOES NOT.

Of course it is -- but your answer does not count, you are knowledgable - not some "newcollectorsuckup" magazine writer. Now part two of that question --- where could you get that mechanical shutoff --- hint - a combination of two well know speed merchants

Now I know what that is also. Have seen those in quite a number of engine pics on old drag cars but never really knew exactly what it was. Did they work well and how was it controlled by the driver?

I know this is not a Mopar but i'm looking for pics of a Chevelle my cousin raced in B/MP around the early 70's. The car was a 427 4 spd, his name is Vernon Foyt and he lives in Minnesota, at that time, he lived in Coon Rapids. I would really appreciate anything on this or any links that might help. He lost the car in a fire, so doesn't have any pics Mike

12.34 Ah, ya I'm sure it did get a little hard to keep up with that. That doesn't sound too much slower than the equivalent SS 383 cars at that time. They must have just been better at cheatin than you ram87.

I don't think the 383 Super Stockers fared very well. In '68 they ran the same SS class as the 440 GTX's. Of the stockers, mine was one of the better running 383's but it fit in the class better than most cars. The weight/hp class break for my car was 10.50 and my car factored at 10.53. The 383 RR's class break was at 10.00 and they factored somewhere around 10.22. Remember, the stocker ran on a maximum 10" wide slick and the SS cars could run on a 10" tire. That was a major difference.

ram87, so it wasn't so much that they didn't run well generally, but were I assume at the lower end of the class weight/factor wise. 12.60s for a stocker RR sounds pretty good to me from back then, but I assume the 440 GTXs were going a bit better than that in stock class. I know the 440 SS/F GTXs ran in same class as the Z28s but all the old ET and MPH #s I see that the 440 Mopars always quicker and faster than the SB Camaros, like 11.70s at 115-119 for the GTXS compared to 12.0s and 11.90s at 112-114 for the Chebbies. Dave Stricklers Z28 was dominant but it didn't run the #s the GTXs in same class ran.

Bad deal for RR racers, especially considering that was the debut year of those cars. BTW, nice truck. Got any old pics of the F/S Satellite?

Here's a few pics of a 68 GTX I found on 'net. Classed as D/stock. I think it may have belonged to Tim Eckstrand who later teamed up with Bob Lambeck on some SS cars.
