Wanting to know more about the history of my car, I have found several places that say they will do a VIN history. Like vindatahistory.com, vinaudit.com, clearvin.com, etc. Has anyone used one of these services and what kind of information do you get back? I realize previous owner names will not come up, but it would be nice to know how many owners were before me as well as where the vehicle was sold. I've used Carfax before with a newer vehicle having 17 digit VIN, not sure if there is anything out there that will give info on an older 13 digit VIN.

Thanks!

Looking more into this...Found a list of state agencies where you might be able to find some information:

Not sure what you get with a State Vehicle Record, but thought I'd pass it along.

The state of Illinois had offered a history report. I bought my dakota convertible in Wilmington, Illinois at the Lunching pad, late 90's. Shortly after I applied for a history report. The state dragged there feet and I had to do the request several times. My information was not in the computer and had to be looked up by hand. I think the services offered on line will not get you any information the has to bee looked up manually.
