So I'm rebuilding the front suspension on my 70 Super Bee and will be doing the LCA bushings. I have a brand new set of Energy Suspension control arm bushings that have been in the garage for years.....it appears they work on both upper and lower control arms. Part # 5.3112G
For LCA use it states "must reuse outer metal shell". The is my first time doing this.....from the videos Im watching on Youtube it seems like people are welding washers to their old bushings and pressing them out. Where is this "outer shell"?? Is this not part of what gets pressed out? I don't see how I can remove my old bushings without damaging this outer shell?

Put some heat to the inner sleeve of the bushing.

Typical bushing construction, outer shell, rubber, inner sleeve. Take a press and press the inner sleeve out. Then cut the rubber out leaving the outer shell in the LCA.

This is what the Energy Suspension kit looks like. From what I gather the upper and lower control arm bushings are the same.....except for this outer shell mentioned. I'm not sure where the two black urethane bushings belong?
So these new bushings press fit into the original metal shell of the original bushing? Seems strange am I understanding that right? Has anybody used these?

OK I'm realizing the black urethane bushings ARE the bushings for the LCA!? And the other four are for the upper LCA. After reading all the threads on here about the issues with these urethane bushings I'm thinking just go with the stock type rubber bushing. Or perhaps the Proforged urethane bushings which at least come complete with the shell. This is what the Energy Suspension kit looks like. I’m not a fan of the Energy Suspension lower bushings...I used them on a 70 Cuda 25 years ago..never again. Stock type are much better...but make damn sure you torque the LCA pins down with the suspension loaded!
