I have a friend looking at a 69 charger, the ft and vin have 101095 stamped on them. the core support and trunk channel have 101035 stamped on them, The original eng and trans are gone. I'm thinking this is a factory mistake and not likely these were changed out at some time but wanted to get opinions here.

Tough question to answer and many will want to see pics. It certainly could be an error, though having two of each number would be less common. Realize that a different vin and fender tag vs. the body numbers is the classic rebody. Depending on the factory process it could make sense and I think mistakes happened more frequently than people realize. If the car is somewhat original, do the fender tag options seem to match the car? That would go a long way toward making me feel good about it. If the car is in boxes with the dash out and little to document how it was, it would be tough for a potential buyer to be confident- same as if the car was restored, that would scare me quite a bit and my car has a factory VIN typo. Some people will feel ok as it is only one number out of place but many won't.

My thoughts are that having the tags or vice versa of a car only 60 vehicles apart is a very remote chance at best and remember that the body ID numbers were all stamped at the same time so if someone accidentally used a 3 in place of the 9 that would show in all the stamped locations. twocents

The car is unrestored and together and mostly fits the tag. Has been converted to a 4 speed ,my thinking was its unlikely to rebody and have the numbers off on only the one digit but that's why I'm asking. cant figure out how to attach the pictures
