Living out in the boonies amongst a lot of wildlife, I've played with the brighter bulbs (Silverstar, etc) a bit. As for bulb upgrades, white light is more effective than blue; blue is the dominant color we see, so there's less contrast/definition using blue light. If the reflector plating in the housings has deteriorated, no bulb will help much. I see a lot of folks with the add-on LED driving lights, but never see them on; haven't played with them yet.
Another thought, based on recent experience with eye surgery for a detached retina: As we age, we get cataracts, and having them fixed really clears up vision & colors.

Thanks guys. Yep I had the cataract surgery with the lens implants. I couldn't believe the difference in colors I was missing. Got used to it now but it has affected my night vision and glare. I even tried the yellow glasses. I may try the Cree LED bulbs since they are just a plug in and go. Reflectors and lenses are still in good condition. A lot of deer out here at night, cant see them now until I'm right up on them.
