I bought a B-body front disc conversion at the Nationals(yeah, I should have clarified!) and later I realized the seal was no good on one. Now I am trying to cross reference the part to get something from an AZ or Advznce. They can't help based on computer only but maybe you can! This is a single piston set up. Anyone recognize what vehicle they may have come off of, please? Thanks for your help!

Looks like a slider type caliper. 78 cordoba or 75 dart.

That looks just like my '80 Volare with rear mount calipers I used on my Duster.

They do resemble them quite a bit! 80 Volare huh.
I will go out and take some more numbers and measurements to help clarify. Do you have a pic similar to the view I sent out by chance? The brake hose location and mount look identical. Thanks!

The concern is the two different seals. The one on the left looks normal but the one on the right looked damaged. After further investigation, it wasn't. Do you know which seal you use, please?

I only have this picture as well. I put the calipers on the car in 2003 so I haven't had 'em off at all.

Having worked on brake caliper engineering for my college co-op job (I graduated in December of last year), I've looked at a lot of brake calipers.

I will say the one on the left looks "proper" to me, but the thing you have to remember is that the seal you are talking about is just a dust boot, not the one that seals the fluid in the cylinder...that is a small o-ring type that fits in a groove in the housing. I personally would run both of them provided that the pad can sit flat on the piston on the one on the right.

BTW: those have to be the same calipers, as I have phenolic pistons as well. There are only two piston diameters in slider type and only the larger came with phenolic pistons. So if you don't like it, walk into advance and tell them you need a caliper for an 80 volare with rear mount calipers.

in the pics is it the same but one piston is not compressed in as far? The 73-75 A bodies have a 2.60" piston dia & the 76 A body's have a 2.75" which would shift alot more bias toward the front(where it's needed) & I think the later volare calipers also are 2.75"

Yes, I have a bit of brake experience myself and the main issue is that the seal on the right(while not a fluid retention component, just a dust boot)does contact the metal backing of the pad material and my concern was the heat transfer would crap it out pretty quick. I do appreciate everyone's input. At least now I can give the folks at the parts stores something in the way of a model type to get the search going.

Congrats on your graduation! Hopefully you had some good mentors during your co-op term that kept it interesting for you. I hate when I see talented guys come through our department the experience isn't beneficial for them!
