Well, this thing has been down at the shop a while.....Its a 64 or 65 Valiant Gasser straight axle Altered Wheel Base deal with a blown 512 B1 in it....We just got it running today. Man does it sound good. Came in for a going thru....Trans, Engine, and front steering, electrical, you name it.....Hasn't run in a while. I might even get to drive it next year....

I am anticipating some bad handling, especially with this much power on board, We were going to just put a carb and regular intake on it when we got stuck trying to figure out the old intake, but nobody had a spare, so...Its full tilt right out of the gate....My ears are still ringing from the startup...
So it debuts next year at Empire Dragway as far as I know. I actually know very little history of the car itself, but it does have a Ramcharger or Candymatic style paint on it.

For those less than 3/4 century old: the original Ramchargers standard shift car (Borg-W T-85 3-speed?) paint scheme was called "Candystick" for resembling candy red & white striped Christmas treats. The 727 car was, of course, called "Candymatic".

B1BS head I assume? Looks like it will be a handful of fun for someone.

So some history on this deal. The car was bought out of Florida, from a guy in Northern NY,we'll call " CC". ( not sure if he is a member here) Frpm my vantage point, it wasnt quite as " promised". They took the car to a little nostalgic outlaw type track, South Butler. I think its between a tenth and 1/8th mile. Made a couple passes. Another member here, saw the car, and struck up a conversation with the folks.Long story short, he saw some major safety issues with the car. The owner, hadnt really raced before, and was very " green". Probably not the best car to start off in.The member told him he better fix some suspension and steering issues before he kills himself. Winter comes and goes, and the block cracks. Owner brings me the engine, wants to build a new piece. In only a few runs, it was already chewing up the pushrods, and several other " soon to be" catastrophic things going on. The choice of rockers and lifters will probably show their faces after a short amount of time too. Not the brand I would put into my builds. I get started on a block, and then poof, he cant be found again for months and months and months. About 4.5 months go by. I had tried Sherriffs, hospitals, friends etc couldn't find him. Come to find out, he had a stroke. Well, that pretty much ends things of course, and just glad I knew what was going on, and he was ok. The other member, " Bill", stayed in touch with him.By then, I had way too much work to take on another build. We get into Summer, and I get hit with a life changing illness, and am still dealing with it as we speak, some 15 months later. So, I cant do the work, and I have had to stop all my shop activities. " CC" got ahold of Farley, and they took on the job. I had already had the heads all re-done and gave the customer my recommendations. They went a bit different direction, but thats their deal. The car needs a lot of attention, and hopefully all the safety issues will be addressed. Its certainly an odd duck, but nostalgic cool for sure. To answer ALs question, yes, B1/BS, with just bowl work done, very minor porting. Not a max effort deal. Hopefully everyone takes it easy and gets the car sorted out before the owner takes a pass in it. It will be cool to see it go down the track

Comp, thanks for posting. I will let Ron know what you said.
I can say, I heard the part about him having a stroke, but the car's history, no idea. I can see it had some old inspection stickers on it from the drags, so it must have been ran at some point. It came to the shop as a real basket case with a lot of stuff not working and even dangling off the car.. A ton things were fixed, but there is still some more minor things to do. There are a few things I would change, but its not my car, and I was just glad to work on somthing this cool. It really is different and I love the way it turned out. Everything in the dash now works along with all the switches and lights. Fires right up and settles into a nice 950rpm idle.
I can tell you, it sounds wicked mean....Throttle response is just wicked. Its probably going to need a whole season of testing and tweaking all kinds of stuff with that straight axle front end to the fuel system. Do you know what size the carbs are?

He never brought me the carbs, so I dont. My shop guy was going to go through them, but that never happened. I dont know all the history of the car in Florida. I can find that out I think. Look that chassis over real good. A couple of the things Bill saw, were a little sketchy. I am more than certain you had plenty of things to fix......lol

Yes there was some sketchy stuff, especially considering the power plant they put in it, but they moved the leafs, re-did the steering, flipped the track bar to the front to clear the oil pan, and fixed a ton of stuff. Is it perfect, no, but it is way better than it was. Needs a laser alignment and the carb linkage reset to run full throttle, but we left it figuring 1st pass would be safer this way...
