do those years use a light or a gauge? I have a new one & I wanted to use it as a backup to catch the drivers attention on the stock car. any thoughts on ~what psi it come on at (likely too low) & how are the 3 terminals wired. thank you for your time. PN 4186352

Back in our day at the dirt track, I just plumbed a "T" off the oil pressure gauge fitting and ran a standard idiot light sending unit to a very bright light on the dash. When the OP was below 7 psi, the light was on. A buddy used to have an oil pressure idiot light sending unit connected to his cooling system. When the cooling system dropped below 7 psi, the light came on. I think he used a blue or a green light for the cooling system pressure. The neat thing about the cooling system pressure was that when ever the water left the system, either by a leak, or overheating (turned to steam) the light would come on. I don't think he even ran a temp gauge. According to him, even if the cooling system was full of steam and not be cooling at all, the gauge would still read 245-250. The pressure light would tell him when the water was gone, or very low. his dad used to build motors, very seldom did I ever see him blow one, but if either light came on during a race, he shut the motor off instantly. I do wish I would have made notes as to how he had the oil pressure idiot light sender hooked to his cooling system because I just can't remember. I think it was pretty simple though. Gene

good info Gene, I think I will do that on the cooling system & keep the gauge. Hopefully my skills are enough that it doesn't get put to the test!

If you can find a parts store that still has their paper parts catalog, the oil pressure switches and their specs are listed including thread size and actuation point. Well, at least the BWD line did. That way you can pick pretty well what you want. I always put an idiot oil light along with the gauge. For the light itself, a small flashing LED is very small, very bright, and very cheap, typically $5 or so. It is so tiny, it can be slipped in so many places without intrusive mods to the dash. And they are bright enough that you will not miss it where ever you put it.

I got an OE sender for my DD at NAPA so I will call them. For the stock car a flashing red light sounds like a good plan cuz the mental pressure is on in the heat of the battle. I rarely drive my buddy does & I want to make it as easy for him as I possible can. A sender that closes at ~ 20-30 lbs sounds close.

I usually use a 20lb oil switch too, hoping to limit the time without oil.

My local O'Reilly's had paper catalogs. I would just go through the product descriptions in it. Like I said, each sender has the tread size and actuation point listed in the back of the catalog. I am sorry that I didn't make a note of the part number that I used. The sender was not unusual or anything. If they didn't have it in stock, they had it the next morning. O'Reilly's had BWD at the time.
I just went to their website, but didn't find any product descriptions like the paper catalog had. Any brand oil sender would work. The description is the key to finding what you want. If you don't find what you want, get back to me and I'll contact O'Reilly's here to see if they still have the paper catalog or if they can get them. BWD has a lot of products and several different catalogs that are thick.
Well, anything the Dakota sender would screw into won't be metric threaded. You can get adapters that will fix that though.
Yes that is what I am looking for now, from that Metric to 1/8 NPT. EDIT found one

From NAPA the sending unit was an Echlin #OP6112 and the adapter is from www.lockandlube.com part # LNL193 for $4.99 & $5 to ship. EDIT the L&L site sends you to an eBay site where you make the purchase
