We raced the 11.50 index at Kansas International Dragway yesterday. It came down to me and one other guy that bracket races regularly (slicks, open headers, vinyl lettering on the windows, and me with my mufflered pump gas pig...). In what I thought was the last round, I beat him by .004 at the stripe. I had to brake hard near the stripe, mis-judged and and to whack the throttle a couple of times to get him. He bought back in so here we are lining up one more time. This round I accidentally bumped in and turned on the pre-stage and stage lights double bulbing him. He waits a bit, turns on the pre-stage light but doesn't go ahead and stage. The system times him out and gives him a big red bulb! He goes to the tower and complains that he "didn't understand the rules" where the system would time him out if he didn't stage (he was trying to burn me down. jokes on him as I don't come up against the converter much at all and leave pretty close to off idle.). He then comes up to me and asks if I was trying to double bulb him? Told him I slid in and didn't mean to. He says they will re-run us if I agree. Against my better judgement, I agree. 3rd round against this guy. I finally dispatch him when he goes red. He was trying real hard to put a beat down on me and ended up beating himself. I spent half the day racing THIS ONE GUY! LOL. At the end of the day I ended up winning the 11.50 class and he went home a loser.

Congrats on Win!! some guys just don't like to loose, Its fun beating a buyback racer twice. I did it at a Mopar race in Virginia back in 2002 beat the guy first round , he bought back and I beat him again in the Semis but I lost in the Final

A couple of years ago a guy in a truck redlit against me, bought back and redlit against me a second time. LOL. These nostalgia events are full of crybabies. Someone cried about my "slicks" in another class I was entered in yesterday that was a street tire class. The rules specifically said "D.O.T. tires and drag radials allowed" Had to point out the D.O.T. stamp under the M in Mickey Thompson to the tech inspector...

If a “double bulb” bothers you that much all you have to do is sit there and turn your engine off if you want to. Courtesy staging is just that, a courtesy. All you have to do is know the rules

I try to be aware of where they are, too. They rolled us into the burnout box and we both did our burnouts simultaneously. I even had time to kick it into neutral and clear it out before pulling in and he was right there, so he was far from rushed.

It is always fun to get weird looks from race car guys when you beat them and then they see you driving out the gate lol, especially if you are faster than them.
As far as racing the same guy over and over that is usually fun. The local Mopar race here in Tulsa sells a "mulligan" and offers buyback for first round. The mulligan can be used between round two and on until it is down to four cars. So you have no idea how many cars will come back the next round and often you end up running someone you have already beat, or been beaten by. Its an odd system but its fun once a year. I was luckly to win in 2016, 2017, and R/U in 2018. In 16 and 18 I didn't use my mulligan but in 17 I did, I used it to beat the guy that beat me if my memory is correct.
