And if you haven't matched the throw at the carb to the travel at the trans you will still have the problem you started with.

OP, pictures of your transmission hook up would help, as others have said. Will try to post some pictures, I hope today? I am not good at posting pictures. Kinda computer challenged Speaking of pictures, would someone post a picture using the Buchillon kit?

The gear it's has no bearing on the TP linkage operation. If flooring the throttle moves the trans lever forward, the linkage is hooked up to the wrong side of the throttle lever. Time for some pics. Took me a while, but I figured that out. Lever know goes in right direction. On test drive, still would not kickdown (didn't think it would, lever moved in correct direction, but far from full back). Also on test drive, shift points worse. (1-2, 8mph, 2-3 15mph, and slipping.)

lever moved in correct direction, but far from full back Therein is your problem. Until you correct this your tranny is not going to function correctly. Driving it just increases your chances of damaging it. Hopefully you haven't already. Change the mounting point on the carb to a position further away from the shaft (more movement) or move the attaching point on the trans to a position closer to the shaft (less movement) or a combination of both.

Also on test drive, shift points worse. (1-2, 8mph, 2-3 15mph, and slipping.) For light throttle, those speeds aren't far off factory spec but is the slipping during the shift or after the shift is completed?
