They put those covers on the car to try and hide the design. I can tell already there ain't nothing there worth stealing. fan

Profit off memories...of the Maverick?

The only memories I have of Ford Mavericks are not the kind that inspire me to run out an buy a new one...

Funny they only pull out the old names and designs when their back is up against the wall facing bankruptcy. If they knew they would be home runs, why haven't they been using old names and designs all along? Chrysler has done it and now Ford.

I worked with a guy who had a Maverick and he said they killed the car off because it was outselling the Mustang II. I have no idea if that is true or not..

I believe that because they would not want to shame the Mustang, just like fiat killing the newer darts, ive one bought new thats great, then this latest F job but Fiat was making so little on them and they were making alot on the challengers and jeeps, they had planned a dart srt cart even and if one looks at the sportier darts they were ahead of the loop and still alot of whats found in the newer srt-s features started in the darts.

I wonder what the ratio to non srt challengers to srt versions were produced and sold?

Its been proven over and over companies will kill good cars because the bottom line is $$$$ which is really smart business imo.

No conspiracy, they killed the dart and 200 because they made very little, if any profit off them, meanwhile they were selling every capacity constrained Jeep and Ram they could make and would make more money building more of those on the dart/200 assembly line.

I believe the people that have bad memories of the ford maverick might be based on the 6 cylinder models...and possible the 74 and up with the huge ugly bumpers.

i have good memories of the maverick , my first car was a 72 maverick with 302, a 351w fit right in a few years later when the 302 was worn out and I put a shaker scoop on the car from a cobra jet Torino it was a fun car.

I have no complaints about mine, well except those '74 bumpers. The 302 and 3spd on the floor made it fun. Kinda wish it was a 4 speed, but what are you gonna do?

I'm starting to think it's the 1980's again over at the Ford Motor Company.... I mean.... Cocaine was a hell of a drug, wasn't it?

I don't particularly understand their decisions as of late. MUSTANG is supposedly going to become it's own brand. Not just a car, a whole BRAND. Ford - Mustang - Lincoln. [censored]?

The decision to stop producing cars altogether other than the Mustang and focus primarily on trucks?

It's been announced the next-gen Mustang in 2023 will be based off of a Ford Explorer chassis. That just seems..... odd. SUV and Sports car... together at last.

See, in my mind, I thought it was a bit of shame about the death of Mercury and Lincoln not wanting to take on the S550 chassis. You know, share that platform to amortize the costs plus produce some other interesting vehicles. Keep the Mustang as the bottom rung performance, a Mercury Cougar based off the S550 with unique styling might've been pretty exciting and have it the more up-market car with all the gadgets. Finally, have a Lincoln luxury sports model based off the S550 again with some more interesting styling. You can't tell me that market segment is dead when BMW, Acura, Lexus, et al , are all producing high-line, 2-door sports coupes. I think it's the plain and simple fact that the US industry has handed that whole market segment to those other manufacturers because nobody domestically has created a vehicle exciting enough (or reliable enough) to sway some buyers.

I'll be honest - other than my Mustang, there hasn't been much from the US auto makers in the last 10 years that got me excited.

Yup, very 1980s all over again

Ford went thru a phase where everything tried to emulate the Mustang
(Bronco, Bronco II, Maverick, Pinto, etc)

Now, Mustang is spawning an electric SUV, Maverick pickup, Bronco as a Jeep competitor, ugh.

I'll stick with Mopar, nothing from Ford interests me. Chrysler 300 and Pacifica, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Jeep Wrangler, Gladiator, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500/2500/3500, Promaster, Fiat 124, plenty of Mopar stuff to keep me interested, not to mention the Maserati and Alfa Romeo models.
