I removed my headers to install exhaust manifolds. I was able to get the collector reducers out on the ends of the X pipe. I now need to remove the X pipe to be able to pull my 4 speed but the X pipe is NOT budging from the mufflers. Any tips? I thought about cutting a few inches in front of the mufflers and using a stainless band clamp to reconnect.

that sounds like a reasonable solution.
those band clamps are made in several configurations, but i haven't had a chance to try any.
however, i do plan to use them when i build the exhaust for my charger.
hopefully, others will chime in with their experience.

You might consider taking your whole X pipe setup and flange each end, one end that bolts to the collectors and the other ends to you pipes before the mufflers. Mines a 3.5 inch setup and when I need to drop trans its a 15 minute job to drop the whole big X and ive used the same copper gaskets for years.

This may only be practical if you drop the trans alot. But it is nice and looks better then a bunch of clamps imo.

I use the band clamps and have had great luck with them staying tight and holding the exhaust in place with no leaks.

Great info guys. I'll probably just go that route.

Heat the muffler end up until it's red and tap it with a hammer to smooth out the crimps from the old clamps. Then spray down the connection with penetrating oil.
