No spectators...What the heck does that mean? Only people that bring a car or are selling at the swap are allowed? Ok, that was confusing. I re-worded it. Is it better now? This is a scramble to change sites at this short notice. We can do this. It’s just errors like Frankenduster spotted that are going to pop up and we need to correct We are not using the term “spectators”. That is for Concerts, Baseball stadiums, etc. where people sit in stands together. When you walk in to buy parts in the outdoor swap meet you are a “Participant”. You are shopping, just like grocery store. LA county outdoor permanent-like daily swap meets are open. And that’s what we are.

correct - the way I read it - there are NO spectators, ONLY participants
one can "participate" by: shopping selling showing supporting racing crewing
I'm sure more details will come out, but it sounds like a MOPAR event "FALL FLING" in ~11 weeks
You got it ! But I do need that feedback on the communication from Greg and others. So I can tweak things. Our people have nearly 30 years of habits. They attend on auto-pilot. They will misinterpret things that we are not used to explaining. There will be participant admission. I know that's a change. But I think I've got the Facility to do it for under $20. Everything else is pretty close to normal prices. There will be Food and Beer concessions !! But please be understanding that it will probably not be as well oil machine like typical 'Flings are. And we are ready to make adjustments when needed.

It'll be hot on the asphalt but I'll be there! Excited to finally have a Mopar show! Don’t forget, show is October 24th. Cooler weather than now And EZ-ups are ok. Even in show field. We don’t have those public park rules. There are also a few new tents with pedestrian benches spread out around the show and swap. I will see and confirm those soon.

I'm in. Awesome to see the support I talked with one swapper that was busting at the seams with parts. Restores cars and dabbles with parts... without shows the parts pile is overflowing. He’ll have 4-5 spots with an E-body for sale. One local Mopar drag guy said he knew about 30 Mopar drag buddies that would come. He’s got the burgundy 68 Dart turbo that was on cover of Hot Rod magazine Drag entry might get limited. So pre reg to hold spot. We are using www.thefoat.com for all pre reg. And you will get a QR code to print or display on your phone at entry gate. Then they will just scan you in. No postal mail in registration. Sorry, just too late for that.

if i can get the day off ill be there Will be about 1 1/2 hour shorter drive for Arizona and Las Vegas people. Completely avoiding Los Angeles city limits. Also the drive time will be cut in half for Orange County, Riverside, Inland Empire folks. So I expect car we haven’t seen or haven’t seen in a while.

Any thoughts on a Friday Cruz. Maybe a tour of the NHRA museum with a meet and greet.

Any thoughts on a Friday Cruz. Maybe a tour of the NHRA museum with a meet and greet. Cruise will probably be too much at this time. Good idea on the NHRA museum, IF it’s open. At this time we are trying to get flyers and online registration up. Then, focus honing down the event logistics with Irwindale. I think we do a real good job and have a high standard with event logistics. Please be considerate that a location change, short notice, mixed staff that there will be challenges and hiccups.

Any overnight camping for an RV and trailer? Unfortunately at this time I don’t believe so. More details to follow. There are more RV and camping facilities for that in that part of town though. The Courtyard by Marriot will be the host hotel. Just 3 miles away. I will be contacting them for a rate and/or block. Don’t expect much at this late date.

I'm happy to see that some type of event is going to happen.Thank you for working to make this possible. I am guessing that the confusing language that was used was necessary to comply with the draconian regulations imposed by the state? Also, Did I see that there will be an admission charge at the gate, then an additional fee to have a swap space or to show a car? Changes like these always result in some hiccups. Only a jerk would complain when a few things go wrong. I hope that most people are understanding. With all the over-reaching closures and restrictions, this show ought to be like the only girl in the bar at closing time...It might not be the best time ever but it is the only option available at the time! Kidding, of course. I plan to be there. 1 - 20x20 swap (includes 1 participant admission) 1 - show car (includes 1 participant admission) 1 - drag car (includes 1 participant admission) trailers included also with drag entry Scenario: 1 show car with 3 adults in it.... pay for ONE show entry and TWO participant entries 2 swap spaces with 3 adults... pay for TWO 20x20 spots and ONE participant entry Does that help clarify ?

Almost an 8 hour drive for me. Not sure I can do it on such short notice. But will surely give it some thought
Been wanting to see this show for several years and when we lived in KY, was out of the question. Now in southern AZ makes all the west coast shows now possible It’s 1 1/2 hour closer drive than or traditional Woodley Park. There will be cars for sale.

How does the display/swap area compare to Woodley Park...acreage wise? The entire facility is 42 TIMES the size of Woodley. 1.5 acres vs 63 acres The swap and show areas we are using for this event will be plenty for us. But not too far away as to isolate. Bottom line: plenty of room. The show cars will be parked in marked parking spaces every other car. EZ ups are ok at this facility

How does the display/swap area compare to Woodley Park...acreage wise? The entire facility is 4.2 TIMES the size of Woodley. 15 acres vs 63 acres do you have that correct, Steve? 250' x 250' ~1.5 acres

The downside to Irwindale = No grass The upside to Irwindale = No grass
The terrain at Woodley is nothing short of terrible (and I doubt that we do anything to help it by driving on it, some in VERY HEAVY vehicles).
By the end of October temps should be mild enough that it will be nice under the shade of an EZ-up. Whether everything will fit in the new car with seats folded down is anybody's guess... Also less dust for show cars. The Woodley October shows happen after a rainless summer with soccer players chewing up the grass.

I never had a problem with it. Grass is easier on your feet and cooler to walk on compared to pavement. What concerns me is that this event location REALLY changes the event. I have gotten to like the extra activities as much as the actual show itself. The Friday cruise, the Friday night at the Burbank Big Boy, the Saturday night at the Northridge Big Boy....These locations are now much further away and not likely to be included. I started going to the show in 2001 strictly for the cars and the parts. By 2010 I joined in on the extra activities including staying at the Air Tel, hanging out in the parking lot with those wacky Candians...

This is not a Spring Fling. With this short notice change, we just can’t pull all the extra activities There are possibilities for all that from and around Irwindale. Less traffic, bigger lots, safer area, Neat mountain cruising (Angeles Crest, San Gabriel Cyn Rd, Mt Baldy), NHRA museum, Justice Brothers museum, Cruise-In locations You can hang out in the Monrovia Courtyard by Marriott host hotel also. Which is right next door to about 3-5 restaurants and a big parking lot. Le Roy’s breakfast is a well known for locals and across the street. Old Town Monrovia is 5 min from host hotel and has over a dozen local favorite eateries: The Peach, Jakes Roadhouse, Old Town Pizza, T. Phillips Alehouse.... Also you can jump on and off the freeway and go to Old Spaghetti Factory in 5 min. Another local favorite.

The terrain at Woodley is nothing short of terrible
Well, considering that the first time we went to Woodley my wife sprained her ankle on that terrain, plus these days for a big show we will probably have the Jazzy scooter for her. Rough terrain is hard in a scooter (she had trouble with Turlock in January). All in all, I'll take pavement.

A major issue @Woodley Park are the gopher holes.. If not careful one can easily twist ankle.. Just my $0.02...

Hey Steve as you know I get there Friday night and am usually one of the first in line and just sleep in my truck. Any problem with that this year? Guessing you'll have signs up.

The facility will be locked. That’s stuff that happens outside of the show. I don’t know how that will play out. We’ve never had a show there before. We are just trying have an event. How to be first in line is going have to be up to those swappers. It took you a few times to figure out a system that worked for you at the beginning.

Almost an 8 hour drive for me. Not sure I can do it on such short notice. But will surely give it some thought
Been wanting to see this show for several years and when we lived in KY, was out of the question. Now in southern AZ makes all the west coast shows now possible Always a great show, I usually fly out from KY and do this show along with a bunch other stuff. Last year it was The Who at Hollywood Bowl on Thursday, Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield Friday, Fall Fling Saturday, Supercar Sunday n Woodland Hills, then cruising The PCH, Mulholland and relaxing on Manhattan Beach Monday, and cursing the Hollywood Hills. Also dodged some fire areas Monday as they were really breaking out that day.

For sure before show we will release a layout with entry gate location. We are not quite there yet.

I for one am very glad to see this and will support the event, I race at Irwindale often.
I do have a few questions, will it be test and tune only? Can we set up a gambler bracket race or a quick 16?
I have some parts to sell and would like to race, can I sell them from my pit spot, or do I need a swap space too?
I don't spend much time on the General forum, Just-a-dart = Rod McGregor

I don't spend much time on the General forum, Just-a-dart = Rod McGregor For this first event, it’s Test N Tune only. This change happened very close to the event. We just want to get this event off and go from there. Your pit spot will not be near the swap. Within your pit you can put some parts out. If it’s interfering with pit lane traffic, they may ask you to do otherwise.

Looks like there isn't much trailer parking at the local hotels? Host hotel is Courtyard by Marriott - Monrovia 700 W Huntington Dr, Monrovia. $105 discount show rate. Code: Fall Fling. Was there yesterday and they have plenty of parking. They host all the other Irwindale car events that have trailers. They will mark an area off for Fall Fling guests to hang out and park together.

I, for one, am glad to hear that this event is on!! I've been to Spring Fling several times and I really love it. I truly wish I could attend this year just to support you but I can't make it.
I can't even imagine the challenges involved with relocating such a big event on such short notice.I wish you the best of luck and I will help you promote the event here on the East Coast.
I'm just glad you aren't having to deal with all of the Moparts negativity like I've had to deal with.
Good luck!!
Ed Ed, Thank you for the kind words and support. Yes, it's quite a change after doing 57 Spring and Fall shows in one location. One time LA Park Dept made us move the location 1/2 mile away 3 days before a show. The person the runs/owns the track has been to a handful of our shows at Woodley, so he does have some feel of the event. No doubt we will have issues to overcome the day of the event. Outdoor Swap Meets have been open for months during this Covid deal. Just have to wear masks. I was just at Long Beach swap meet yesterday. They've had 8 events this summer and will have 6 more before years end. They just don't allow Sporting events, Theaters, etc with spectators sitting in stands close to each other. Fall Fling has no competition, awards, presentations, autograph signing, etc.

Note that fire is about 6 miles North of the track... So today in the immediate area there was a fair amount of smoke and the air quality index was up to 102 rated UNHEATHFUL... I just drove back on the 210, traffic was light coming westbound into Pasadena. Hopefully by the Fling showtime date, the fire will be out and air quality improved.. Just my $0.02...

I’ll definitely be going, mainly for the swap.
Steve, is this location permanent or when things calm down after the Dempanic, the Flings will revert back to Woodley Park?

Hey Steve.
Do you have a vendor list yet? I need a shaker hood for my Challenger I’m looking for someone who might be able to bring an AMD one to save the freight.
:-)
Thanks. Not quite yet. I know Glen Ray radiator is coming. The Mopar Shop might be coming. Don’t know if he could save you on shipping. Check with https://mckellars-modified-rides.myshopify.com. He’s coming and brings a big equipped trailer

We’ve got multiple swappers already registered with FOUR spots. That’s a lot of Mopar parts to sell!
Swappers are already loading up!
BTW this trailer now is full to the end. And this is not one of the swappers with 4 spots

Thanks for going to the extra effort to put on the event. I have had nothing but work, work, work for the last year with constant vacations canceled due to my work. I look forward to spending a day there. I just booked at the host hotel and they have booked me for one nite at show discount and saturday at full price, but it was still cheaper than the AIRTEL rate. Since I only 'drink' on vacation, I plan to relax as best as I can. I might swap or hang out and watch the racing. If this ends up being a fun show and has racing, I could see it becoming even more popular over the years at this location. Maybe Van Nuys for Spring Fling and Fall Fling at this location

I would like that. Part of what I like about this show is the social stuff in addition to the show itself. This year will lack that....the Friday cruise, the Nights at the Big Boy in Burbank and Northridge and hanging out in the Air-Tel parking lot. There are some great back roads and views in the San Gabriel Mountains just north of Irwindale. The Irwindale host hotel does not charge extra to park in it. So it’s easy to have Cruise-In there. They said they would rope off an area for Fall Fling guests in the parking lot....Also, theres two other hotels just across the freeway and a big parking lot and a Claim Jumper between them... all about 1200 ft apart. If you have EZ-ups, bring them. The Track is 100% ok with it. The show cars will be parked every other parking spot 10ft+ apart. 10x10, 20x10, even a 20x20 would fit. Also bring tables, chairs, whatever. Also at Irwindale there is not a “no movement” policy from 10-1pm. You can go and come as you please with hand stamps and car creds.

I'm going to enjoy the no mud/dust/lumpy dirt to deal with. With it being held at Irwindale, to me it will be a mini MATS show. Going to enjoy it especially since shows cancelled out this year. I hope to meet some of you in person. If you see a black w/blue flamed 04 Dodge 3500 dually, that's me.

Swap Pre reg numbers right now look to exceed past 3 Fall Fling shows. That projects to be well over 110 swappers. I can’t predict Drags turnout. But we have over 30 right now. Some as far as: SD, AZ, NV

This show’s Swap pre-reg ALREADY matches the highest pre reg for Fall Fling in last 3 years! Just got official numbers yesterday. Make sure to bring your carts and dollies! They will roll nice on the pavement. Also make sure to bring comfortable shoes. This big swap is going to take a lot of walking on asphalt. Better bring a wad of cash! Time to get off the and over to Irwindale and get some DEALS on Mopar parts !

So hows the smoke been there? Wasn't there a fire in the foothills just north of the track? I was there on Saturday... not an issue. Bobcat fire near there is done.

Swap pre reg just keeps coming in.... we are in uncharted ground for a Fall Fling The Drag cars are at 41... with 1 1/2 weeks to go. Track says for stand alone events like this Total Drag entries end up being double the pre reg. That will be about 100 racers. And show cars can buy tech cards for $20 additional if they get the bug.

Mopars 5150 from Sacramento area is bringing down some really cool “barn find” type and un-restored Mopars
71 Hemi Challenger 4 spd recently found in Arizona -as found condition
69 Hemi Charger 4 Speed -as found condition
69 Pink 383 4spd Super Bee (999 code)
Possible a “patina” 69 Charger build
And a restored 69 Charger
Special opportunity to see the cars.

Thanks for supporting the vendors Greg.
I’m digging those rims too.
Troy in the club swap spot has what I think are 70 Charger side markers. And 70 RT doors, lower bumper support, those rubber bumper to fender cushions, bunch of other B-body stuff.

Are there going to be event shirts available? Also, did the club end up with having to buy the spring fling ones? If so, will those be there? Need to replace some of my wardrobe.

I gave you Tara with the hotels info to correct this earlier. Hopeful you were able to fix it.

Courtyard Marriott sure isn't giving you a very good special rate of 105.00. Can book a room there through Trivago for 103.00 and the Hilton down the road for 93.00 and Spring Hill Suites for 83.00

Anybody have any info on after hours activity? They were going to rope an area for Fall Flings guests to hang out in parking lot and drink their own tasty beverages.

Steve, any event maps you can post? We're planning on getting down Friday afternoon. We're staying at the host hotel. Missed the pre-reg window, as usual... Did you call Tara is posted before. She might be able to still get the discount rate.

Missed the pre-reg window on the swap is what I meant. Thanks for the map.

October 20, 2020) Irwindale, CA - Officials from Irwindale Speedway & Event Center and Chrysler Performance West:
At the insistence of local officials, “Fall Fling 25th Anniversary,” has been canceled until a time when it can be assured that an event of this prestige can be hosted in a safe and successful manor. The event, previously scheduled for this Saturday, October 24th, was set to host a participant only Mopar Swap Meet and Drag Race on Irwindale Dragstrip. CPW and I.S.E.C. ask for patience and understanding from all participants as we look toward the future for possible collaborations. All pre-paid participants will receive full refunds for the Saturday, October 24th event. Refunds will begin to be processed as soon as possible. Questions can be directed to info@cpwclub.com and info@irwindalespeedway.com

To say I'm disappointed would be an under statement. Drove 18 hours all the way down from Washington (am in the LA area right now) for the show and now it won't happen. I'm sure the club did everything they could but this last minute cancel is brutal. Made a hotel reservation for Friday night at the host hotel through Hotels.com and it's not refundable so l am out that too.
On a side note also down here to help out the family of a good friend Steve Marinoff. Rocket Restorations restored a 1971 Hemicuda for him that was a privilege to work on. Sure a few of you knew him but he unfortunately past away a month ago and down here to help the family sell off the parts and cars. I am buying all of the parts that do not go with the cars he had (was planning on bringing it all to the swap meet). Anybody looking for max wedge or Hemi parts? Going to have a trailer load going back to Olympia, Washington. So many good parts, Steve had a great eye. Also the family is selling off some of the cars including a 1963 Plymouth Sport Fury Max Wedge car, 1963 Plymouth Sport Fury project, and a 1963 Plymouth Fury survivor 361 car. Was going to bring the survivor to the swap meet as well to help the family sell it. Will post some pictures of the collection tomorrow.

Yea. Pretty damn pissed off. Trump 2020. Fake a$$ China virus. So you're saying the President was lying about getting sick?

Just got word a private closed driving event at a remote racetrack that got 2 calls the night before the event. Less than 40 cars, mostly single driver & spread out in pits. Otherwise inside the car driving in track. Health officials and sheriffs showed up morning off event. Same thing happened for a car cruise with people inside the cars. Luckily these complaints involved Police that have some sensibility. It seems people are actively searching out and targeting any gathering trying to cancel it due to Covid. Our event was OK’d by City UNTIL people called in. Beware!

Be sure to remember who stood in your way this year in the misguided effort to "Keep us safe". I sure will. Gavin won't get my support this next election. Only car show all year I could make. Took 2 weeks of vacation off so I could prepare for it. Now it's just a bad memory of 2020.

Be sure to remember who stood in your way this year in the misguided effort to "Keep us safe". I am actually paying more attention to those who are failing to take steps to not keep us safe, by at least an "abundance of caution".
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

That depends on a few things. First and foremost, the fear of everything including their own shadow....

Be sure to remember who stood in your way this year in the misguided effort to "Keep us safe". I remember who closed the border so I could't fly to Carlisle in July Carsten

For that you are willing to kill small businesses and ruin people's lives? I guess it would depends on whether President Super-Spreader is attending.
