Me thinks you've been told wrong The starter ring gear is a lot further away from the back of the block than the 1962 and later cars are with all aluminum 727 and stick shift flywheels A lot of info floating around on various sites, but nothing concrete regarding the bell housing/starter bolt configuration/tooth count/etc/etc adapting a mini, I can get a custom built reduction starter for the poly to replace the direct drive boat anchor, but I'd prefer a mini, I've run across a few threads of guys modifying minis to fit, but only on the 1st gen HEMIs and 361-413... the 318 poly seems left out, plus a lot of one year changes in late 50's/60/61 on the polys.... the Forward Look forum is a little baffled on modern upgrades, and besides those guys are kinda locked into "originality", if there's a post over there on 61 318 Polys running minis, I can't find it, hoping someone here has done an actual fitment?.... Mike

I'm running one on my 65 Poly. However, I'm not running a factory bell housing so I'm not aware of any issues with the original. I'm using a late 60's aluminum 340 bell housing.

Did you ask the question over there at forward look? Lots of Guys there that modify things.
Look in members rides and you can see plenty of swapping and modifying happening over there. I think if I ask, I'll see some of the same answers/confusion/misinformation from previous threads in the search/archives there, guys on Moparts are a little more in tune with modifying things....

Thanks John, I saw you mention this over at Forward Look when I was searching the various post, a little spendy at $300 which I don't mind, but if there's a more readily available/common source that's adaptable, I'd rather go that route, my luck I buy the specialty item, and it goes disco if I need another years down the road, or no one wants to service it Mike

If you don’t ask, you won’t receive any info. Ask a specific question and state what transmission you have, I’m pretty certain there are people there who know your answer. If you don’t ask and sift through the useless answers you’ll just be stuck here asking the wrong group. As we well know there is a large part of the hobby that has to have a mini starter in everything and they can’t stand a 1962 and up gear reduction starter and refuse to use them, and they actually work. Those 1961 starters are not anywhere near as good as a gear reduction. So guys over there know where to buy them. You are talking about the group of people that have to post some answer even though they don’t know what the heck they are talking about. We have seen them on moparts, they are everywhere.

I agree, when/if the time comes and I don't have a course of action I find favorable, I'll post a Q on the Forward forum, the last time I posted a question on the Forward forum, the responses are just like any forum response, lots of guesses, misinformation, etc, etc, eventually there's always someone that can help...I like to explore all avenues whether I search on my own or in rare cases ask for assistance Thanks Mike
