Would something like this have enough suspension, frame, and motor to pull a 26 ft. tag with a 3000# car, golf cart, and tools in it? It's a 1996, they say it has a 235 Cummins with a Banks system?, and a 6 speed auto. Will it run 70 MPH down the highway with no problems? They are asking $24,500 for it.

A friend gave me the idea of going to something like this, instead of making a $600 a month Cummins Ram payment. I'd go back to driving a 98'-99' 1500 Ram gas back and forth to work. I'm a little leary of a motorhome because I made one trip to the track with my POS 84' 460 Ford Class C before it went back up for sale! 45 MPH,4 MPG, and overheating the whole time, bummed me out! I love the way my Ram pulls my tag, but I can't afford a LQ trailer while I'm making the healthy truck payment. Just throwing ideas around. Give me your opinions guys!

DP's dont have frame extensions like their front engine gas counterparts do so that wouldn't be a concern of mine. I would think it would handle the trailer quite nicley especially with the Banks kit on it. Mine is a 34' W/ a 230hp cummins (no Banks) and a 6 spd Allison and has no trouble pulling my 28' trailer.

My only recomendation is get a custom hitch put on that is up to the task. Most manufacturers only equip them W/ a class 2 hitch.

BTW, what kind of trans does it have?

I updated the post. It says it has a 6 speed auto. Does not say whether it's an Allison or not. Thanks. Anybody else?

I would think the motorhome would have no problem pulling a 26 foot trailer. How do you get a golfcart in the trailer with the car?

The golf cart sits in front of the car. It's tight. Good thing I don't have a B-body, it would never fit.

It has to be tight,no cabinets? Do you have a 3500 truck now?

It all depends on the type of golf cart. My old yamaha G 1 was skinny enough that it would go through the 48" side door and leave a couple feet between it and the car.

Our new EZ GO wont fit through the door so It's a good thing I have a 28'er cuz I have to back it in all the way to the cabinets then load the car. I have a few inches to spare on either side of the car.

I drive the golf cart in through the big door. It sits the same way as the car, beside the couch, in front of the car. The Action Packer is in the back of the pickup most of the time though. The cart is an old EZ-GO electric.

are there lots of hills where you live?? If so, you will be very short on power with that small cummins. It will tow it, just don't be in a hurry!!

I have a 300hp with allison trans in mine and live in pretty flat area. I don't pull out to pass unless I have LOTS of room...

Come on guys .. this is a Mopar site ....think Mopar-powered motorhomes !

You want a pusher ....look-up FMC.

Or a puller with some style ... other than those flat-front Winnies ? ...

A Discoverer or a Travco.

I don't see how 230 HP pulls the RV and a loaded enclosed trailer very well. Not in hilly country for sure.

I see you fellas have never been to SoDak ..?

So flat , you can look west and see the back of your head

I considered the motor home option too but, I didn't want a single use vehicle sitting 80% of the time without a single use

Well I can think of one use for it when your not traveing. It's a pretty nice "dog house" if she ever kicks you out for a nite or two.

Come tow in KY and tell me what you think if you can make it up the hills to get home.

I use my coach more then my pickup truck.
Once you own one and go racing with one, you would never go back...

The only thing I'm worried about is the power issue. I guess that is why I bought my truck in the first place, now that I think about it. I tried to pull my trailer with my 1500 in a head wind for about 20 miles. It would only do 60 MPH and the little 360 sounded like it was coming apart. I think I got on the computer and started looking for a truck as soon as I got home. I've been thinking about this whole idea, and If I get passed by my buddies on the way home and they left way after me, I'll get mad and wish I never sold my pickup. Another drawback too, is a motorhome is just another vehicle to insure, maintain, and find room for.
On the other hand, the dedicated vehicle is not a big issue to me. I only have a Diesel truck so I can pull my race trailer 6 months out of the year.
I'm going ask a few people at the track that have similar set ups, and ask how good the power is. Big Dad is right about it being flat here, but there is a lot of slow farmers to pass. There is a couple of hills, and the wind ALWAYS blows toward the direction your coming from. Never fails. I think this is going to get some more thought. We'll see.

Hills are one thing, Mountains are another.

I have problems getting out to pass a rig on a hill. However I will say I'm not the fastest one going up the mountains either. Nor do I try to be.

I'm also not the slowest.

I just did this same thing last year. Best thing I ever did. Bought a Coachmen Cross Country DP and have used it to go racing,a bike trip to the Black Hills, and went camping also. Never used my dually that much! I would be concerned about the power though. I think 300 hp is the minimum I would want. Also what chassis is it? 19" or 22.5" tires? Air suspension and brakes or not? I have friends that pull with gas class A also. They seem to do fine and the later model ones dont get as bad of mileage as you would think. It boils down to what you are comfortable with. It takes a couple of trips to get used to driving it. My first trip was trying for sure. Now its a breeze.
