Hello,

Can anyone let me know where can I find a flywheel that will work on my 340-6? Took the flywheel off of my 1973 motor that came out of my AAR and had it re-surfaced thinking there the same??? TA motor has a 1970 forged crank with the center measuring 2.167" in Diameter. The flywheel off my 73 motor measures 2.155". Bought one from jeggs and they sold me the same flywheel I already have.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

What am I missing???

Thanks,
Scott

I am assuming the 73 is a 340? If so, it is externally balanced. All you need is a 130 tooth internally balanced flywheel.

I did that getting the flywheel from JEGGS. It turned out to have the same hole size as my current flywheel. Called JEGGS they called there suppliers (RAM and Mcleod) and both don't have a flywheel with a hole size of 2.167" or bigger?

Buddy has a 1970 340 with a crank of 2.165" and flywheel hole of 2.172"

Turn the register down or open the flywheel hole.

This is a new one on me. I’ve never heard of this problem. I’ll try and run over to the shop when I get a break today and take some measurements for you. I’ve got lots of flywheels and both steel and cast crankshafts from 340s. I’m stuck on a tax deadline so I’m not sure if I can get there today or not. I’ll do my best.

I ran into this problem on the early SB crankshafts, 340 being larger and 318 and 272 being smaller O.D. on the registers whiney
I had sold my wife 1968 Baracuda 4 speed 318 car that I had swap the crankshaft out of another junkyard motor, both cranks had the small O.D. register so I had no issues with the flywheel.
The guy that ended up buyng that car much later after I sold it to someone else had a 1968 Dart GTS 340 automatic car that he tried to put the 318 in and ran into the problem on his flex plate not fitting correctly on the 318 crank shruggy
I don't remember now what he did but I think he hob gobble it up and ran it anyways tsk

Well. Here’s what I have. I’ve got many shafts. I’ve got a 340TA that I was the first person to take it apart. I’ve got multiple 69-70 340 steel shafts, multiple 318-3 truck cranks, multiple 318 cast shafts and even a 73 340 4 speed crank. I label them when I take them apart. They all measure 2.155-2.157. All my flywheels from oem to aftermarket measure 2.158-2.160. Even my 440 stuff falls into these measurements. I’ve had some tight through the years but never like what your describing.
