Anyone on here use speedmaster I beam rods in a build. I bought a set for a build. They rate them for up to 1000 hp, but I've had to do a lot of deburr polishing and haven't even gotten to checking sizes. Overall appearance is good, just looking for some opinions. The build will be a 383 stroker 3.915 X 4.290 with trick flow 240 heads and flat tappet cam. Oh and rods are 6.535

I had their 7.100's in the cart for my 505 build, I chickened out and bought Eagles instead.
I read a ton of forum posts on their products for all makes, and it seemed to be 50/50 whether people were satisfied with the product or not.
The Eagle stuff seemed to get better opinions so I went with that.

Rated HP is meaningless, in a NA engine rods fail in tension.
An inadequate rod will break when you close the throttle at high RPM - with the key off.

chevy big block rod? ask around on a chevy website and see if those guys have tried them. I wouldn't get lost in horsepower numbers either. do some comparison with a comparable h-beam rod.

I've used several different sets of CAT brand made in China forged steel BB Chevy 6.8 and 6.7 long rods with really good results with no problems up
I took one of them along with a Eagle and Carrillo rod to one of the best crankshaft grinders and motor builders in SO CA in 2001 and ask Ron to look at all three and tell me what he thought of them, he identified the Carrillo rod right away and couldn't tell the difference between the Eagle and CAT brands, he didn't see anything wrong with them shruggy work I ask him how he knew which one was the Carrillo rod and his reply was it was double shot peened work confused, I couldn't see that shruggy
I have two sets of Speedmaster 7.1 long BB Chevy rods that I'm going to use in two low deck pump gas builds with offset ground to 3.910 stroke 440 cranks up
I'll have them mag and checked for roundness, proper I.D. and corrected as needed and center to center lengths before using them also, just like all the other rods I use.
I also have a set of their SB Chevy small journal 6.125 long rods that I'm going to use in a pump gas 360 Mopar stroker build with a custom piston set up

I have checked my rods very carefully. Crank and pin ends are excellent crank end are all within .0002 pin end is even better. Beams had a burr on all four outer edges. I used a deburr wheel on a grinder to polish those off and lightly touched all the faces to take off any machining burrs. Am satisfied and will use the rods with confidence. And the rods were shot peened which created the beam burrs.

i use Molnar billet rods on all my builds , so far no problems , of course i don't have anywhere near 1000hp , 500 -600 is most i've gotten so far but i might hit it with NO S or a supercharger one day i'd rather spend a bit more the first and hopefully last time don't trust eagle or speedmaster

This pic is from years ago, but the CAT and Eagle were different when measured.

What bolts are in them? That's what I would be concerned about.

Well change of plans. I can not get pistons for the 383, 3.900 stroke, 6.535 rod combination. But can use a 6.700 rod length and get off the shelf Icon pistons. So I'm selling the rods along with a set of Icon pistons that will work together in a 400 block. The pistons are +.030 and work with the 6.535 rods. Have them listed on here for $500. Pistons and rods are all new, never used. Thanks for the comments everyone.
