my buddy has a 71 cuda w/440 and got a 572 world block hemi10-71 blower setup. questions do the fender wells need to customized? what headers would work? maybe Kooks what else? trans recomendations? 727 won't support hp's if went 4 speed, G-force,jerico,or lenco? what has to be done with k-frame? how much cutting of trans tunnel? looking for someone who has done this! thanks

The engine to fenderwell clearances will depend on which heads, valve covers and where he positions the motor and which K member he uses. I had a 1971 Challenger 318 car converted to a World block 572 C.I. Hemi with Stage V heads and valve covers along with a Reilly Alterkation K member and front suspension conversion. I supply the motor and entire exhaust system with all the front mounted serpentine belt drive parts mounted so Forest Fincher could get the motor to set in the engine compartment with no issues, he did it well We bought the headers and complete exhaust system from TTI, they fit well and are very nice on the quality, not cheap though IHTHs You might warn your buddy a blown hemi in a E body is trouble waiting to hurt him, especially if has never had a half fast car (9 seconds or faster)with a lot of power

It will definitely be a handful. My buddy built a very high dollar restomoded '67 Chevelle with a supercharged LSX and a 6 speed. It dynoed at 725 hp at the rear wheels with a street tune on pump gas. I told him to go with either an 8 or 10 speed automatic so he could keep both hands on the wheel and to install bucket seats with good bolsters. He wanted the bench seat and a stick shift too. I begged him to go to a racing school and get some experience driving progressively higher powered cars, but he didn't listen..
He froze up the first time he got sideways, slide across the bench a bit and drove into a tree at about 15 mph. I almost caught it on video. It put him right in shock. First time driving a beast like that. Oh, and forgot to buckle his seat belt like he does regularly in his work truck.
I asked him if he learned anything. He looked at me like he'd been gut shot. Could have been much worse with more speed. I am grateful he didn't get seriously hurt, just a few stitches. The car is getting fixed now.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

I used a World block to build the 540 Hemi in my 70 Cuda. TTI headers fit good although I think they hang too low on the passenger side. The Edelbrock/MP heads and stock valve covers clear the passenger fender well. But it is very close. I used a stock repop K member and steering with a stock 6 qt oil pan, but back it up with the Accusump.
Is this a track only project? My engine only made 650HP during break-in and it is an absolute hand full on the street with 295 drag radials and Cal-Tracs. I don't know what you are planning for rear suspension, but I can't even imagine what hooking up your monster with a stick will be like. And trying to steer it with one hand. Your buddy is BRAVE! Good luck.

can he keep power steering or go to manual box with the tti headers? he's going to use it on street! 2 1/4" with power steering. The tubes are all over the box, so I had to ding a couple tubes and slot the box to move it outboard a little. It is tight, tight, tight. Getting the right K member is key to whether it will all work or not. There is just no room for error. On a Hemi Dart project I did a few years ago, I moved the passenger side top shock mount outboard along with the fender well. That allowed me to move the engine to the passenger side some and gained head/valve cover clearance, too. You might consider that on your project. If I had to do it over again, I would have done that on my Cuda. That little extra room is well worth the work. And if done right, very few people would ever even notice.

Dave, my 64 hemi fury is bout 2" offcenter. if i could of, i would have inverted the pass shock tower as the a864"s were. have to jack motor up couple inches to remove valve cover. is this what's going to happen on cuda?

I can get the valve cover off with the engine in place. But it is tight. I tape the shock tower up to protect the paint and use 1/4" drive tools to get the nuts off. Even with those precautions, the shock tower has some battle scars. Everything, including me, would be just a bit happier if I have moved the shock, tower, and engine to the passenger side some.

What kind of experience does he have with a Hemi or even anything that is not a normal set up. Who built this set up for him and is it built to drive or race. I remember Bannings blown Hemi, big cube hemi 14/7 blower at the Mopar Nationals at Indy year and years ago. He was on the best Hoosier Street tire you could buy for the track really slick with a line on them. Hoosier gave him the tires to use after he made one pass with his tires and he black tracked from start to end. When he came for his passes Indy would shut down both lanes because he was taking up both lanes. I believe it ran 9.00 or just in the 8.s using both lanes and not hooking at all. Cuda now is owned by another that runs in NSuper Stock. Just tell him the right pedal can make things interesting and how long does he plan to go before he freshens the Hemi.

Not much in hemi area, its 1 of those always wanted to do this.or had to have. motor has min. of 1000hp. so not sure which way to go on trans. either way about 10k up or down, auto or stick. nothing will be cheap. new dana w/spool 3.54 lot of trial and error. thats why i figured to get a heads up!
