Dude, that's a Factory cold air intake that pulls air in from outside the fender where there is cooler air................you want to remove that immediately and put a "hot air intake" like this pronto! lol
Bonus points, +5mpg and +50hp if you can find one that is situated directly over the exhaust manifold and turbo. lol Double bonus points if you add the 50hp and another 5mpg straight exhaust.

It siys directly behind the air filter right before the turbo in the air box tracked.... That is probably a "muffler" to reduce intake noise.

Soooo, you guys are a bunch of smart a$$'s I see.......lol
Well, I have been putting Cold Air intakes on these for a while, and never seen a 4 way divider in the intake tube before. I also usually get rid of the silencer ring right in front of the impeller. So I am curious what mods everyone does to these....Figured just leaving that part out alone would double the air flow...

The fellow that said “muffler” would be correct, about the only thing you’ll notice is a little more noise. Was akin to flipping your air cleaner lid over from days past. Where did you end up getting your truck from? Jim
