Should the map light on a 70 B body turn on when doors are opened....same as dome light? Or, does it only function via map light on/off switch?

It is a dual function light.
On with a door open & it can be switched on with the doors closed. Thanks! I must have a wiring issue. Mine is not turning on when the door opens. Only works via switch. Time to trouble shoot.

They get sourced by ground door switches on a yellow wire. This wire must be plugged on some provision around on underdash harness

They get sourced by ground door switches on a yellow wire. This wire must be plugged on some provision around on underdash harness Correct and the pink wire goes to the back of the fuse box. Remove the three screws and pull the light down. The yellow wire should be plugged into the top post of the housing see if it popped off. The switch either grounds through the housing which it is doing. or the yellow wire door switches, which it is not. The pigtail from the light goes down to the main harness and that should be plugged into the yellow wire off the main harness, see if that came apart there as well.

Well, the pink wire is connected because it turns on with the switch, just not with doors.

Thanks for the trouble shooting tips. Sounds like I need to look at the yellow wires to identify my issue. I will report back my findings....it will be a week or two. Car is at the painter for final cut and buff.

Well, the pink wire is connected because it turns on with the switch, just not with doors. Wrong. The Pink is hot all the time. Yellow is the switched to ground to complete the circuit. The map light has one other wire I think black that is a fixed ground to the map light can work independently from the door switches.

He is getting troubles with the door jam wir ground circuit, because since he is able to turn it on with the switch with the chassis ground, it means the pink wire IS connected. Sure I know pink wire is batt positive!

It is hot at the bulb all the time.

I never said the pink wire goes to the switch, I meant the pink wire is conected because the map light is working with the switch. Where I'm saying the pink wire goes to the switch or the switch handles positive ? is working because the switch to feed the chassis ground is able to turn on the bulb since the positive is arriving... too! Never specified where is arriving positive, just that the system is working because both poles are arriving... somehow. Just the ground from door is not, hence the reason why doesn't turn on when opening doors.
If both poles weren't arriving, the map light wouldn't work, no matter where arrives + and -. Then that also means there is nothing to check at fuse box, because + is present at map light.
many ways to say the same.
