There must be someone that has put a 440/727 in a b body and figured out the linkage. I've been told by a local Mopar restorer that most of my old 318/904 stuff will work with modification, but it's the modification that stumps me. Could anyone please give me some direction? I've put pics below of each set of linkage. I'm sorry I don't know the vocabulary of the individual pieces. I've spent hours under my car and am frustrated to where I'm asking for help. Any info or advice (or complete tutorial, lol)would be much appreciated. As you can see on the 727 picture, the one piece was cut off with a hacksaw by the guys who pulled the motor. So if the 727/440 linkage, which came out of a 1977 New Yorker, can be used, I'll have to find a replacement.

I would have just used the donor's kickdown setup.

That's what I thought, but the 1 piece rod binds against the firewall on the b body, and the Edelbrock adapter for my kickdown rod to my carb is only for for the 3 piece rod, so I can't extend the rod the inch or so that it would need even if it worked.

Most end up going with a cable setup, Lokar has a real bad rep, Bouchillion has a good rep.

My preferred solution is to go with a manual trans.

There is a local guy, about an hour away. He says I can use most of the linkage off the small block, a couple of pieces from the 440/727, but that many modifications will be needed. He keeps a set of modified linkage for this very purpose so he can copy it. So on Saturday I will drive out with my stuff and modify it to the same as his. He said he's done it several times, takes about two hours, and works perfectly. I'll re-post after its in the car and report on how it went.

Hybrid linkage will work if you follow the basic rules of operation; the trans lever should be full forward at curb idle and near full back at WOT.

The throttle bracket and rod that goes from that to the carb on the piece 318/904 setup is different between 4bbl and 2bbl and the rod is also different between type of 4bbl. The rest of it is the same between 904/727 except for the bracket that bolts to the transmission. I forget what its called (torque shaft throttle shaft or something?) but I always call it the pivot bracket.
I don't know what changes between big block and small block parts.

Some people know what they are looking at some don't.
I labeled the pictures in case you were unsure.
You are missing the springs across the board.

Often the shift linkage has springs but since they lock with a bolt they are really not necessary.

The kickdown springs are extremely important. They linkage must be kept against the throttle levers but have slides built into the carb end. If the spring(s) are not there the kickdown will not work and it can trash the transmission.

I looked for a solid rod 440 assembly for some time with no luck. I went with a OEM 95 Ram kickdown cable. I felt it was better than the aftermarket in terms of quality and I can source parts from anywhere. It also doesn't care about manifold or carb height/location.
The transmission end was a perfect swap. The carburetor end required me to make a bracket and add a stud to the linkage on the side of the carb linkage.
