Guys!

Ok, so I'm using a older Holley Street Avenger 80670, and for the most part it works fine (as long as I start it and run it every day, or every other day).

However, recently I've noticed that if I let the car sit for more than 5 days, the accelerator pump stops working.

I think that I know what the problem is, although I don't know of a solution.

For whatever reason, the fuel in the carb metering block seems to solidify (for lack of a better term) and prevents any gas from being expelled out of the discharge nozzles, (a.k.a, squirters).

I've had this problem several times in the past, and I've had to use compressed air to clean out the orifices.

Any suggestions?

Might try a new acc pump. Your's may be getting a little old. They do make ones that are alcohol friendly as well. the only other thing that could cause that was mentioned by Cab. You may have to clean the discharge needle / check ball beer

I bet it isn't working because you have a manual fuel pump and the carb is dry because of the new crappy gas evaporating. If it was the pump it wouldn't work for a few days. Can't pump fuel that isn't there.

A quick check to verify that would be to remove one of the lower bowl screws and see if any and how much fuel is or isn't there
The reason I mentioned the pump itself as I has seen several that have gotten real stiff due to today's fuel or age. beer

Many years ago I had a 69 roadrunner that I brought back to life. Car had sat for 3 to 5 years. Fuel tank had a lot of varnish causing the same problem. Finally ended up pulling the tank and cleaning it along with sealing it. End of problems.

Thanks for the replies!

I do have a manual pump, and after a few days or so, I can see the gas in my clear filter slowly drain back down to the pump.

However, I can remove a lower bolt screw from the float bowl, and gas pours out.


Update: I had the same problem again yesterday, so I went step by step.

I removed the float bowls screws and the float bowl, and aiming the inside of the float bowl away from me, and moving the accelerator pump handle, gas shoots out for 10 feet.

No problem there.

Then I removed the metering block, and using compressed air, that port seemed clear.

Then I used compressed air to blow through to the accelerator pump nozzle from outside the carb main.

Nothing...

So I removed the carb (since it is almost impossible not to drop the accelerator pump nozzle and associated washers into the engine) and removed the accelerator pump nozzle.

Now there is a small bullet shaped valve (a.k.a. the anti-drain-back valve) under the accelerator pump nozzle.

That appeared to be stuck.

After getting the valve loose, I cleaned it up carefully using some emery cloth until it was nice and shiny.

Hopefully this will solve my problem.

Before sticking the valve back in, I blew some carb cleaning through to the accelerator pump nozzle channel.

Buttoned it all up.

Accelerator pump handle moves nicely, and I can hear air blow through the accelerator pump nozzles.

Will actually start the car today to see if gas squirts like it should...
