I am working on rebuilding a Power Take off for a 48 Power Wagon.

Deep inside is a fork that is on the shaft that will move back and forth to push the gears into contact. The fork is attached to the shaft with an allen screw. I need to pull this allen screw to pull the shaft and gears out.

The issue is, it looks as though when it was attached, the edge was punched to prevent the allen screw from coming out. So I cannot get the allen wrench into the screw to pull it. How do you go about removing this? I would leave it,but the seals are leaking and they need to be replaced.

Get one of these 12 points that is the same size and drive it into the allen head. https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-60750-...;hvtargid=pla-4583726541186254&psc=1

Can you get to it with a grinder and a small ball rotary file? If so, just grind away the peening.

That got it, I used an extra long hex head and hit it in with a hammer and, using the ratchet, it came right out.

I can even reuse the screw.

Thanks, I am not sure I would have been brave enough to hammer anything into it.

Now I just need to figure out how to loosen the drain plug, which is a regular headed screw that is corroded in with 50 to 70 years of time.

I am glad I took the time to pull everything apart, I found an old nut in the bottom that doesn't belong to anything in the Power take off.
