Any one have a part number for retainers to get a 2” set up height on my 440-1’s? The ones on the heads now set up at 1.950 with a .015 shim. I have no idea what the part number is on them except that they came on the heads. Heads have had zero additional machining. 10degree titanium. 1.550 spring.

The PAC Ti retainers will add some height over something like a Manley +.100 Ti retainer...... but they’re expensive.

I haven’t used any in years, but the CV products Super 7 Ti retainers also had pretty tall installed heights, but you need their locks.

I don’t recall if either of those will get you to 2” though.

Either +.050" retainer or locks. Retainer depends on whose spring you have to fit properly. Same with the locks. What spring and whose valve? 7 degree or 10 degree? It wont fit at 1.950"? My -1s run .800" lift at 1.950".

The PAC R-505 is what they show for the 1225 spring. That’s for 10* locks.

I’ve installed that spring numerous times on Indy heads at 1.950....... just depends on what the actual net lift at the valve is with full spring load as to whether 1.950 will work for you or not.

It’s the roller from Andy’s 470. Should net right at .700 with 1.6’s. I plan on a little street use though. Thoughts? Using what I have would sure save a ton.

Another question, retainer is 1.112 for the shoulder. The springs are 1.100 ID. Think I can get away with the interference?

Those springs are usually over spec for seat load ootb.
You’ll be close to 300lbs on the seat at 1.950 if the springs are new.

I don’t really like it when the spring won’t easily sit flush to the retainer.
If you chamfer the sharp edge of the spring ID it should take care of that.

There aren’t a lot of real good options for mid-level roller springs in the 1.950 height range.

Right, springs are new. I couldn’t really find anything so I was gonna use these and + .050 locks. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they have the +.050’s for lash caps that I could find. That would have got me to 2”. Not sure which way to go now... I could send the springs back but not sure what to use.

I don’t know how high you plan to turn it, but if it’s in the 7k range, something like a 1386 should have enough open load for that...... the seat load would still be close to 300 though.

If rocker clearance isn’t an issue, I usually bite the bullet and cut for 1.625” diameter and run Comp 951’s.
Those get me where I like to be for both open and closed loads.

You think I could get away with the 999’s set up at 1.900? I’m not sure what kind of RPM to expect. It was thinking 6700 maybe? It’s a 512.

Could also do the pac 1243s maybe? Not sure if that’s enough spring rate.

I have T&D’s so I’m not sure I have the room for a larger spring.

999’s I believe are tool steel.
I basically never use that stuff anymore.

There is a thread over on Speed-Talk, not too old...... about some K-Motion K-1600’s being used at that height.
Apparently Chad over at SRH is a pretty big fan of those.
They’re cheap and I think the open load would work okay for you...... the seat load will still be near 300 though.

Apparently the actual loads are quite a bit different than the specs.

I don’t really like to use 1243’s at much over .650 lift.

The single shaft system doesn’t have great clearance under the rocker.
1225’s with Manley Ti retainers @1.950 often have a slight interference.

Ok, I looked at the k-1650’s. Those don’t look to bad. Maybe I’ll give those a shot. Guess I really need to invest in a spring tester to take out the guess work.other than that I’m pretty much at a loss.. I wouldn’t be worried about springing it so heavy if It was just a track car.

Are you checking the spring pressures or shooting for a spec. provided with the springs?
Are you using spring seats or spring cups?

Do you think the Pac retainers will still give me additional height? I think mine might be 732’s. I can’t track down any k motion springs, looks like the 1650’s are all on back order. Looks like I’m stuck with the 1225’s.

The PAC Ti retainers I used had more installed height than some Comp 739 Ti retainers.

That’s my only direct comparison.

If you get some to try, post how the installed heights compare.

So I threw a pair of these at it along with a .015 seat shim and landed right at 2” installed.

That makes sense.

With springs like what you have, I prefer to run a spring cup. The spring cup is .060 thick, so .045 thicker than your shim....... and with Indy heads and Manley +.100 retainers...... I’m usually right at 1.950.

They would need machined for cups.. do you have e issues with the aluminum giving up?
