i am installing an aeromotive 340lph pump into the tank of my 69 charger. the system will have a 1/2" return, but will start out carburated, with a possible TBI [sniper] in the future. as i would like to plumb this once, what return style regulator is recommended for this installation, and why ? TIA as always for the help !

i decided to use this one as a match to my 340lph pump. i have a 3/8" feed now, and i'm going to make a 1/2" return. if there is any corrosion or gunk in the feed line [new in 2000, but has sat with gas since 2007] i probably will increase the feed to 1/2". how far off the bottom of the tank should the return line be ? should it point any direction other than straight down ?

Normally you would point the return away from your pick up.. doent really mater how far off the bottom

The 1/2" up doesnt do a thing.. in a stock design we put the return right on the bottom.. that system is in every production Chrysler out there.. I worked in the Fuel and Exhaust lab for 35 years testing this stuff... the return just needs to be pointed away from the pick up and the air will rise in the tank

thanks mr. P ! you are the guru of fuel, and i follow your advice ! another question [or two]. would it be advantageous to [somewhat] flatten the outlet into an oval to prevent stirring up any junk that may accumulate ? run the return [closer] to the rear of the tank ? also, what would be the minimum clearance around the in tank pump and pickup needed ? if it means anything, [and i didn't mention it previously] i'm using a reproduction stainless tank from van's auto.
