I recently put a 408 Stroker With a 4spd in my dart. It keeps knocking the throw out bearing off the fork. Has anyone experienced this? Everything seems ok nothing obvious not sure where to start

Was it an all new setup to the combo? This usually happens when the fork pivot / fork / or bellhousing aren't matched up like they should be. So the clutch works until you drive it or does it happen the first time you push the clutch in?

Got about two miles first time and about 1/4 mile second time. All used parts only shows one fork for a 70 abody it’s 12 inches long Hays clutch set up 3 finger got it all together matched set but who knows.

I have seen the wrong pivot in the bell throw off the geometry and clips cant hold the TO bearing straight when it contacts the fingers. You would need to get under the car when someone else depresses the clutch pedal so you can see the action.

I've had this happen in a different make car I had. This was a 4 speed camaro, about 32 years ago. I put a 3 finger clutch in. The pressure plate was too much pressure for the stock fork to maintain. I had to replace the pressure plate with a different style and not so much pressure on the fork. I might have even got a new fork, I can't remember. After the change, all was well with it.

iagree Use Brewer's website to compare the pivot and fork.

Ok full disclosure the parts I used where all bought separately. The clutch pressure plate flywheel and throw out bearing I purchased from a local guy all new but sat for years. The fork I bought on eBay as far as I can tell it’s the only one available for a 70 abody 12 1/2 in long. Bell housing is correct part number. I will get a helper today and watch clutch movement to see if bearing is centered. Could it be the wrong bearing? Are there different size center and face surface?like I said I bought parts but nothing was in a box so I can’t say bearing is correct.

Zbar outer stud only had 1 bushing half . I installed and I’m positive it was in there, possibly I knocked it off changing engine and didn’t notice it. Clips on bearing are stretched so I’m ordering a new bearing.
