you are missing the YEAR digit - 249 represents the 249th day of the year September 6th (if it is not a leap year) But I though sme parts used three digit date codes. Where first two digits are the week number and last is the year. So 249 would be 24th week of 69. Or am I wrong?

The year digit may be an inch or so away from the 3 digit day code. I have seen this on some radiators.
