I immediately removed both of them and they went in the scrap pile. The upper part was made of cheap cast iron. I love the smell of Deer guts in the morning, it smells like... VICTORY!

Never had an issue with them--hopefully the materials are better in my brand-name older stuff... I have always had bad dreams about accidentally kicking one of those release levers while under the car, so I always put a tire/wheel under the car or a second jackstand to back it up.... 1969 Dodge Coronet Super Bee 383 A4 1970 Plymouth Road Runner 440 FC7 (sold)

Not really. Making a good jack stand doesn't cost anywhere near $350. The pile of 4x4's someone posted will do the job more than adequately and costs nowhere near $350 to make. Can't do that with a welding helmet.
