I have a fairly mild solid roller Crane cam, 246/246 @ .050 with .3294 lobe lift, .527 lift with a 1.6 rocker that would fit my needs but I don't want to buy adjustable rockers and solid rollers. I have the bronze drive gear so that isn't a problem.

I have the Morell hydraulic lifters. I have seen on other sites where some say it depends on the rate of lift on the ramps. Too aggressive and it can hurt the lifter. I can see this if the body would come in contact with the lobe but otherwise I don't see why it would hurt them.

My thought from 40 years back was a Ford and Chevy you could not run a Hyd lifter on a Solid cam. The Mopar and AMC used the 0.904" lifter so the base did not dig into the cam lobes.
But with roller's I can not see any issues. The cam is stupid and does not know that is above it. It just sits there and spins.

Hyd lifters on a solid cam?
Sure...... it’ll run.
Probably not too good though.
It’ll probably add about 30-40* of seat duration at the valve.

It’ll probably add about 30-40* of seat duration at the valve. So you mean the valve will stay closed longer, effectively reducing the duration at .050 to the 206-216 degree area? It's a tight lash cam spec'd at .020 valve clearance.

The available hydro cams all have too much lift for the other spec's I want. Namely duration in the mid 30's to 40's range and a tight LSA 107-109. Secondly I already have the lifters Thirdly OK, there's more than two problems, I need this thing back together and running so a custom grind is out of the question and lastly, adjustable rockers and solid lifters are expensive. So I'm trying to make do with what I have. This is not a race car, it's my mountain truck. It has a ton of gear and a stick trans so I'm looking to work the engine at 3000-6000.

You can get adjustable iron rockers pretty cheap. For $150 or less you can get a set that would work for you................ You really need adjustable rockers even with a hydraulic roller cam in my experience - at least with the hyd roller I have.

It's a Magnum headed LA block. So yeah the rockers are cheap but then there are the studs, guide plates, then measuring for pushrods and ordering them and I'd still have to buy the solid roller lifters.

Running hyd lifters on a solid cam is the same as running it with zero lash......... because thats how much lash it will have....... zero.

Would be more like a stocker cam with more lift. Now that I've said that I kind of want to put it together and see how it runs. ![laugh2 laugh2](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/laugh2.gif) I just don't have time to waste and I cant seem to get a cam.

I'm running hydraulic roller lifters on a street solid roller cam right now. It runs good but the idle is much rougher. Oh yeah...... I also run solid lifters on hydraulic cams. What? Am I the only one who does this crazy stuff?

Am I the only one who does this crazy stuff? Well I don't think this was a street cam despite the conservative lift so since I need to get this together and can't afford to waste a $450 lifter set I wussed out and ordered a hydraulic roller from Utawesome Performance. His grinds are the only ones I could find with more conservative lift figures for the 1.6 magnum rockers. Don't want to smash my valve seals or have some piston to valve intercourse. BTW Marty at Utawesome was awesome. Great guy to deal with and he knows his magnums!
