What company do you use for custom battery cables?
I don't want an OE cable. I want something a little bit longer to route around the headers and I want something a little larger in OD.
Who do you like?

What size do you prefer on a starter cable with the battery in the stock location?

Thanks
Dave

NAPA sells solder on ends in various cable sizes as well as battery cable by the foot.

Easy to make your own for custom installations.

I like to run a Red 2 gauge from the battery directly to the Starter. Then back feed the Starter relay with a 10 gauge Red wire. And from the Neg battery terminal I run a Black 2 gauge to the block and a Black 10 gauge to the body near the radiator. Up grade the tiny engine to firewall strap with a 6 gauge bolted to the voltage regulator area.
Over kill?, Maybe.

Cranking issues? Nope.

A 4 gauge is 1 step up from a V8 stock cable of 6 gauge.

BatterycablesUSA sells a 36 inch 2 gauge for about $17 each. Measure your cable and check them out.

I make them using 1/0 welding cable. You can get them with or without the auxulliary wire and they are complete including the solenoid wire. Tell me how long you want them and I can get it done. For a pair with the extra wires it's about 135 now + shipping

We made ours with 1/0 weld cable, but our battery is in the back.

Grounds are the same gauge, with a stud welded to the rear sub-frame under the battery,
welded frame ties, and a stud welded to the front sub-frame. A 1/0 up to the engine area
with a 1/2 inch bolt to use as a common terminal.

20* initial, 10.25 C.R., starts great when hot.

As was said; overkill, sure

Joe

I like to use the XS Power cable 1/0 with the clear PVC jacket, this way I can see the wires condition thru out it's length as it ages for corrosion/oxidation or discoloration/burning, 4 gauge is also available, XS comes with either clear/blue or black coverings, Summit Racing carries it along with just about any terminal end you might need...a little pricey, but the best usually is

Real simple and cheap to buy them premade from Standard.

The cables are coded, download the Standard Wire & Cable Illustrated Parts Guide and it will walk you thru it, buy them from RockAuto.

Say you want a top post, lead terminal 36" long 6 gauge cable

A366 is it
A = top post lead terminal
36 is the length
6 is the gauge.

You want the same but with an aux wire as well?

A366U
U being one aux wire

Want the lead free terminal (sheetmetal clamp)?

A366T

Want it with an aux lead?

A366TA

A being the aux lead.

Want a 4 gauge cable? Change the second 6 to a 4.

Sorry for the delay and thanks to everyone on the replies.

Before I started this thread, I contacted Battery Cables USA and Mike has been very helpful. I just pulled my existing cable out this morning to get some final dimensions before ordering. I did not want to mention names in my original post, but it looks like some of you have used them with good results.

My red battery/starter cable (1ga., w/12ga 6" lead) will be about $25 total and just a few days for shipping.

Thanks again everyone!

1ga. is plenty. I never go larger than 2ga., could probably use 4ga for most of it, but I use welding cable. 1/0 is diesel territory. Big cables are just dead weight along for the ride once the engine is running.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.
