340Cuda, yes your pictures probably would be helpful. Is there a power steering pump also ? That would be crowded. No power steering or alternator but a vacuum pump. Several are on the engine stand, prepping the engine for a trip to the dyno. One shot is of a Peterson "Wet Vac" pump that would have combined the oil and the vacuum pump. It mounted nicely on the block but hit the steering box. Let me know if I can be of any help, Bill

Stanton, you can change drive pulley ratio, but one big advantage to me is no abnormal wear on cam gear and pump drive gear. what do you call abnormal wear? you have the dizzy on one end & an oil pump on the other, they kinda balance themselves out. Have never seen or heard of anyone saying their cam gear has worn away.

I think he's referring more to the wear of the oil pump drive gear and bushing.

I think he's referring more to the wear of the oil pump drive gear and bushing. But we're in the race section here, so it's not like we're going to drive a zillion miles on these motors, race engine parts get checked at freshen up time & a new gear for the intermediate shaft has to be way cheaper than a remote pump.

Engine is getting a roller cam.
It can't be possible that everyone has forgotten about roller cam gear/pump drive gear failures, can it ?
Please reread my original post. How many failures have you heard about vs the number of engines that run the same set up.. I an sure way more run the set up vs what you heard about

I don't believe there is a commercially available mount bracket available, (unless Andy F lists one) it's not a particlarly common conversion. A friend of mine was talked in to it, a whole lot of expense for very little benefit really. He had an ATI dampener with a BBC front pattern, could run an off the shelf drive kit, rather than me having to machine one. I had to make the block off/inlet plate to go to the block in place of the factory oil pump. His engine is going on to a chassis car, so I can't comment on whether it will clear the K frame.

If your main reason for an external pump is gear wear, I suggest you re-read the very first reply after your bringing up the issue. Surely this can’t be the first time you’ve heard how to set up a roller cam pump drive.?.?.?.

As said already.. put a hard washer in there or a torrinton bearing in there Any more information or pics on this mod ? I'm interested since I seen some wear on my roller cam setup and in the process of installing a new bushing and would like to make a permanent fix. AG.
