I'm reassembling a 904 and need to change the selective snap ring (flat) on the rear clutch to a thinner one. Is there any option for buying just a single 0.060" snap ring without having to buy the 5 ring kit from AA Trans? Mopar P/N 4130761 seems to be discontinued and Witttrans is out of stock. Anyone know of a different snap ring that interchanges (A500, 46rh, etc.)?

Current snap ring is ~0.078" and I have a tight 0.019" clearance on the 4 clutch pack. Manual calls for 0.025"-0.045" clearance.

you may try transtar, I think they are the biggest supplier of trans parts for rebuilders. https://www.transtar1.com/

A couple things 904 transmissions have not been built for a long time, so they really are antiques. The A500 is an overdrive that was built more recently, and the main section is the same as a 904, you may ask for snap rings for a A500 and get better luck finding them. I still build a few transmissions and a lot of the younger sales people who don't know about older stuff will tell you no, when if you look it up yourself the part is available, they just don't know the history and interchange of the units. Kind of makes me mad, but many times I just look it up myself now and ask for part numbers and not even try and have them look it up. Sometimes they pester me for a model year and application, and when I say something like, a 1964 dodge, with a 540 CID, etc etc. Their eyes kind of gloss over.

Another thing if when you say rear clutch, you are referring to the drum that has the input shaft attached to it, you can fudge on the plate clearance a little, that clutch is applied in all the forward gears, the only time it has to freewheel is in reverse. As long as the clutches rotate when when the snap ring is in place normally works fine.

Thanks. I forgot about Transtar. I ordered another part from them and once it was delivered I realized they have a store 15min from my house. They show part 12878 as the 0.060" snap ring I need

I have a couple new reuseable pan gaskets for the 904, the gaskets that are plastic with 2 O-ring type seals around the gasket if you are interested. PM me if interested, thanks.

After talking to Transtar and WITT, the snap ring (#878 in the diagrams) I was looking for was an OE only item and neither place had any stock nationally. Mopar P/N 4130761 is discontinued and I couldn't find. I eventually found Mopar P/N 1942421 as an older number and found 2 from a dealer via ebay. I bought both and clearances came out great. Parts came in the original bag and judging by the Mopar label, have probably been on a shelf since the 80s/early 90s.

Anyone who has had some core units or left over parts, has a selection of stuff to try to use. But, keeping a selection of different thickness steels and being able to trim a piston or pressure plate a few thou is really needed.

.019 on that forward clutch with new frictions is a little tight. I like to keep them 025 or 030. I may have left that alone. The only downside would be the car wanting to creep some when running in neutral.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.
