How much shorter can a pushrod be from "optimal", and still be acceptable? The intake needs to be 9.400" long, exhaust needs to be 9.350" (3/8" dia, .083 wall, 3/8" ball, 5/16" cup). I have a nice set of almost new Smith Brothers pushrods that measures 9.355". They will be good for the exhaust, wondering if they would also be acceptable to use them on the intakes, or just order up a new set? This is a 557ci, w/ a solid roller.
Thanks, Brian

What does your rocker geometry look like... more importantly, what will it look like if you expose another 1-1/2 threads with a pushrod .045" shorter? work

The exhaust looks good, the intake, even with the correct length, not as good as I would like. Intake starts in the middle and rollers to the outside and back. No noticeable difference with the shorter pushrod. If I moved the shaft up to fix the intake, it will move the exhaust out of wack. Intake is really not that bad, just not as good as the exhaust. These are Harland Sharp 1.6 ratio rockers

Since we are talking pushrod lengths. How much shorter is a low deck rod over a raised block? I am going to build a length checker for my 400. Curious where to start.

On a side note you might check out the B3 utube vid on rocker geometry. Easy to grasp & he's the guru on this. Basically you want the rocker/valve to be at at right (90) angle to each other at 1/2 cam lift & changing rocker height alters this (can be hard to do on our Mopars) & that this geometry sets the pushrod length needed not the other way around (with your preload included in this).

Imo, it’s more critical to have the length optimized on some types of rockers more than others.

On something like a Jesel or T&D, I def wouldn’t be running the adjusters outside of the acceptable range...... especially with high spring loads.
