Employers have to pay the state to fund the unemployment while you are working. The school district and other government employers do not pay into the unemployment compensation so they don't get any benefits. I guess they threaten to fire anyone that tries to game the system.

Just as I expected, my company called me into the office and let me go today. Also the city of Cincinnati laid off 1700 employees.

Still working , orders have been up ..so far,
this area never seems to get to crazy when things like this pop up , it might this time .. never know,
But, been told that mgmt will continue to work and most of the hourly employees will work on projects like adding on to warehouse, etc if orders get slow .

we are in the building industry ..

Hope everyone is able to adjust and things get better for everyone in a few months , crazy times

Here in Alabama, the weekly unemployment payment is a maximum $265.

When I was working full time I was making $1515.00 a week plus full Med/Dent. With this Fed money added to what I'd get for "Unenjoyment" I'd take home $1350.

So glad I'm full retired and drawing $550 a week and don't qualify for that Fed money. I had been drawing off my IRA's till the bottom of the marked rotted out. Been paying my Cable TV, internet and cell phone with my Visa card. If the market does not come back up I'll have to take the loss just to pay my bills.

On our weekly conference call/meeting today (we all work from home anyways, and meet once a week), we got the word:

No layoffs, but a 25% pay cut for 12 months for everyone from the CEO down. Once everything gets back to normal (or at 12 months), we'll be restored, then get a 10% raise each for the next couple years to try to make up for the lost income.

50-ish employee company that now has pretty much no revenue since our customers can only do their thing in large groups of people laugh2 frown

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I was laid off March 20th after almost ten years of employment at the place, ironically i received my first social security check a few weeks earlier and was contemplating what to do anyhow: retire or keep working. I am eligible for unemployment in my state even when collecting SS, I have applied and will get my first check in a week or so. That coupled with the " stimulus $ "added to the unemployment I am better off not working, although I have found a few part time jobs to apply for that look interesting my wife says: are you crazy relax for awhile. She likes having me home so she doesn't have to worry about me. She works in a hospital doing psychiatric evaluations, not really front line with Covid 19 patients but I still worry every day she leaves for work. She has been dealing with " not clean" patients for years and knows the protocol. I didn't mind the job i had small company only 20 employees but with the current situation sales were declining and it was cheaper to have employees making less than me do the four jobs I did : CDL driver/ fork lift operator/packaging mechanic/ shipping and receiving I actually understand that, they lost their " safety net " As I could always be counted on to fix or handle a situation that occurred or pitch in. Oh Well as they say " its their loss"

I dont know about you guys... but i've made more money in March than i did in the previous 4 months combined. Its been a BRUTAL winter for me. Worst ov my life. I run cash businesses, and i couldn't squeeze a buck out ov ANYONE. I couldn't give anything away.

And then... they shut down the gyms. And here i am... sitting on all the remnants ov my almost-opened gym from years ago... basically all the stuff i didn't want to use, or thought was too worthless to sell (unfortunately i'd sold off all the good/professional stuff years ago... too bad...). Well... as it turns out, you can close the gyms, but that doesn't stop hard-cores, or even just normals who were getting into the routine, from needing to train. I'm almost cleaned out, after a whole week... and i had a LOT ov stuff. I had line-ups, text-ques 10 people long for single items. I put a single ad up last night, went to bed, and woke up to 21 Emails. Sh!t... so now i'm out there looking for more to sell. And i'm not even ripping people off like some ov these cretins out there are.

I took a voluntary lay-off from the dealership last week. I've been there for 30 years so they gave us old timers the lay-off option. there are 7 flat rate techs in the shop so as you can imagine the few cars that come in are spread pretty thin. I can't live on 3-5 hours a day but the UE check with the bonus I can eat and stay away from my 401K account. Some of the younger guys that are flat rate are staying there and earing what they can.
Some of the things that employers are doing to their employees across the country is horrible and they need to be held accountable for their actions twocents

I wonder if the $600 is retro active, if not they have a lot of reasons (600) to delay any payments, and then pocket the unpaid funds on 8/1/20?

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

This is going to vary by State. I work IT for a public school district. To my knowledge, everyone is still getting paid here in Michigan, both hourly and salary. We are expecting staff to be developing online curriculum for students though.

I asked my part-timer if she wanted to quit and take unemployment because she'd end up getting more money. She said, no, she'd rather stay working and help me. I look up to her for that. I always kick her down something when we finish a big job so I guess this is just showing appreciation.

We are also having supply chain issues where our suppliers are out of components or sub-assemblies and can't ship. Over the years, when a customer makes a mistake (or we do, though that's rare) and wants to return custom-made product, I take it back and give them full credit even though I end up losing money on the deal. I do this for customer service. Well, after 17 years, I've ended up with a LOT of stuff in storage. I inventoried it and wow it's a lot more than I imagined! I am even selling the stuff upstream to my suppliers. Customers are will to take something that is a little too long or overkill on performance simply because we have it and can ship.

This economy is not going to reboot overnight - it will be slow coming back. Worse, still, so many people will have their savings drained, will lose this house, etc. Getting all Americans back to a good place is going to take longer. Healthcare, education, housing, and taxes have been so high for decades that Americans could not afford to have any savings. Now that is coming home to roost in the worst way. Hopefully, as we all get back on our feet, we can force some changes so that if you work hard and live reasonably that there will be enough leftover every month to save for the future.

For those getting laid off, use every resource you have to keep as much of what you own. This (now economic) crisis is just another opportunity for the vultures to do a wealth transfer from the working class, just like the housing crisis was.

The wife was laid off from her job for 2 weeks then went back to work last week.
She works at True Manufacturing, they make commercial refrigerators (like what you see in Walmart and restaurants, etc)

She said unemployment didn't require her to put in a waiting week so he got 2 weeks of unemployment checks and a $600 federal check was deposited Tuesday.

Kayse said as of last Friday True called 500 people at home and laid them off permanently.

Most had less than a year of seniority, that was company wide. (they have 4 plants in Missouri).

Some of the lines in the plants are only working 3 days (they work 10 hour days).
The line Kayse is on the are still working a full 40 week (4 day work week).

She has said that because the supply lines are only working 3 days that they'll run out of parts to build them soon since the supply lines never kept up even when they worked all 4 days.

If you're ever in line at Walmart or Starbucks or anywhere and see a commercial refrigerator that has the nameplate says True on it, that's what they build.
I don't think that they build walk in style coolers, but I could be wrong.

Camping and outdoor supply chain REI has laid off 1,000's nation wide and will not be bringing most of them back.

In Texas they're doing it. People are getting it added if they qualify for state benefits. Those that don't qualify will still be reviewed by the state to see if they will get it. Sooner or later Mo. will do it - it's money from the Feds so there's no reason for them not to apply it like all the other states. It may take a while for the money to trickle down but I believe it will happen.
