Anyone buy any race fuel or drums lately? Wondering what the current prices are? Thinking this may be a time to have a drum or two delivered and save some cash..... Lol. I hope you find some lower priced fuel but I’m betting it won’t happen. Most of it was probably made last year and we all know race fuel prices usually only go up.

Yea, Race fuel prices don't reflect crude oil prices... and if demand goes down the price will go up.

Race gas will never go down. It's not refined the same way. Different chemicals are involved too. I dont even want to start my little small block up with Q16 anymore. Cost me $21.00 for each startup. I agree. On another note, regular (87 octane) unleaded pump gas is now $1.49 near me (NC), and going down fast.

160.00 a drum for alcohol. Cheaper than that in some places

It's the hard-and-fast rule of racing:
High demand, prices go up. Low demand, prices go up.
One of life's absolutes.

E85 for up to about 13/1 compression and e98 race ethanol above that should make decent alternatives. I got a pm from a guy running e98 with 15/1 compression. Don't recall how but he was involved with promoting ethanol as race fuel. I just found e98 Sunoco 54 gal drum for 375.25 a guy could use cheap e85 for warmup and e98 to run.

$1100.+ for a 54 gallon drum of VP Q16. Ridiculous $110.00 for a 5 gallon pail. Wow....that is...ridiculous

Yea, Race fuel prices don't reflect crude oil prices... and if demand goes down the price will go up. But crude prices are often stated as the reason why prices go up
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I'm sure there is. I've got one of the basic $20.00 testers and it hasn't been off enough to have had to adjust the ratio. Lots of info out there on google search. If it's 85% ethanol and 15% gas, It sounds simple. I did read that it makes a difference when using unleaded V/S leaded gas to make adjustments.

Is there any EASY AND SIMPLE WAY to measure and MAKE this E85 mix dead on or made even a tad richer ? The problem I have is I keep drinking the ethanol I make and never have any to blend.

Hey Greg, I switched to E-85 (out of the pump)in the dragster at the end of last year. I'm at 14-.3 comp an it's working well. First of the year I ran a best of 7.37 @ 180. It's a pretty big camshaft that brings down some cylinder pressure. $2.99 per gallon. Great info Don! Glad it's working for you. For lower compression motors ( say less than about 12.5/1) I posted in another forum about mixing to a lower ethanol content for two reasons. By going lower , like to 50 or 60 pct ethanol you can always adjust the pump e85 down to what percent you want. The other reason is at some reduced percent (e50?) You should be able to run the mix in a box stock race holley. A e50 mix should be able to go richer to the 20 percent higher fuel flow required by the E50 versus reg gas. So if the fuel system can handle the extra flow and the carb a guy has can flow the right mixture, for some guys it could be a real win win.

This is the very reason I went with a pump gas motor. I got tired of the high price of race gas and hard to find it. I run 93 octane .
