On a 1971 Cuda with road lamps, where the wire passes through the firewall is there a connector or just a grommet?

To directly answer your question there's a small section of wire past the firewall grommet that protrudes into the engine bay...At the end of that would be your connector...While there are differences in the harness between 70 and 71 that section appears to be very close if not the same...
