I've seen that truck at the races with three different cars all painted similarly, the 1963 M.W., the 1964 Hemi car and the original Rettig A990 1965 dodge SS on it when Stevey Wann Father, Don Wann was racing them

Back then Trucks were Trucks and A/C was rare bird from the factory. That was about the only cost effective method for those class (1 1/2-2 ton) of truck (typically not used for long distance)

I figure all of them were air conditioned, but also thought that maybe the stock AC was not really adequate for the crew cab and maybe a sleeper. Hence the roof unit. All pure speculation on my part.

That is not a D500 truck, all the D500 truck with Bud type wheels had 5 lug studs on them, the D600 have 6 lugs and the D700 and bigger have ten lug hubs I'm not sure if that is the original Rettig Bros truck or a tribute truck Same thing on the car, I've race at the same races as a car that looks a lot like that more than once a long, long time ago. I'm going to say it looks like Don Wann 1963 Plymouth M.W. car but his may have been either a Savoy two door sedan or maybe a Belvedere two door sedan ,not a Hardtop Fury CRS

I bought this truck from Dave Rettig in 2000 and drove it back to Iowa. Steve Wann showed me the ins and outs of the truck before I headed for home. I dont know if D500s had 5 or 6 lugs but that is the original truck. I had it until 2017 and sold it to Pat O'Brien who owns the rettig bros 63 belvedere.
