I,m building a big block tranny ,while assembling the rear clutch i discovered it doesn,t use the spring spacer ring and wave spring. it has a thick snap ring only. its a ,by part number, 69 tranny with the narrow bushing set up. anybody know what this type of rear clutch setup came in? i took a 74 tranny apart to can the plastic spacer from and it wont work in this setup. the piston retainer is not machined with a deep groove like the 74 tranny is.

IIRC, it's a common deal to remove that wavey snap ring. I may be confused, the books I have are packed away right now...

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Edit ... yes there is a wavy ring in the rear clutch it's used to hold the spring plate in with the spacer ring

727's prior to '65 didn't use the wavy ring and spacer in the rear clutch, a single thick snap ring holds the Belleville in the drum. This snap ring has tabs at each side of the end gap where most clutch snap rings have a tab on one side and an angle-slice on the other side.

Somebody has swapped in earlier parts.
