I pulled my 74 Charger Rallye trunk divider out of storage and compared it to the reproduction 74 B-body divider I have. very different. The original fits much better around the center floor hump (it's longer and cut out to the floor shape), rear seatbelt attachment points and rear wheel houses in installed photo. I've attached photos to show the differences. You'll note that the original has insulated "wings" to extend over the wheel house to the rear interior plastic panels. I The repro is laid on top of the original in one photo and it's installed in car in the last photo.Anyone with a 71-74 Charger found the better fitting one like my original? Thanks.
Terry

No I have not and put mine together with the aftermarket that you have. The original fits so much better, has insulation on it and as you show goes over the inner wheel wells.

It's just another example of how the aftermarket "one-size" fits all .

DMT(Detroit Muscle Technologies) made a post about a trunk divider awhile ago. He had a customer complain about the fit. It might have been on a B-body. DMT stated that in all the years he's sold them, this was the first complaint. He should see this post. Maybe this is the same issue his customer was trying to convey to him? Maybe he would be interested in making a correct one?

That was for an E body.
OP must have the sound insulation package.

Does the jute insulation always face towards the trunk or towards the seat?

We made a cardboard template from the original divider and laid it in there. Some adjustments needed but a close fit. See first photo. The creases in the cardboard box we used causes a few problems. The second photo compares what's available to the template of the original divider.

Like moparmarks said, thats sound insulation. That odd tar paper stuff used on many cars in the 60's and 70's isn't available without a time machine. I've seen it in others cars, mostly Fords, in junkyards. Most people just duplicate the functionality with Dynamat or similar instead of that nasty old stuff.

What was the old trunk divder from in the last picture? Was that also in the car along with the sound deadener tar paper stuff?

PS The reproduction one you show (even though unfortunately its an REM piece) is whats found in the vast majority of the 71-4 B bodies. In 13 years I've never had someone ask for the tar paper stuff. So it's not like the black cardboard one (like the OEM one you show in your last picture) is some substandard fitting piece that the reproduction market is putting out.

PPS And as far as the guy with the E body trunk divider fitment issue..... how could my trunk divider, that I copied from multiple OEM pieces (I NEVER duplicate anything from one sample), test fit in my own Challenger, sold 1000+ and never a complaint but one guy says it doesnt fit even though you can see a spray bomb interior paint job with house caulk body seams and the fit issue is on me? smile

The used divider I put over my template is from my other 74 Charger and is the same paper board material as the reproduction from DMT. I may use the teflon board from a local sign company, glue jute to it and install it as my new divider. Water resistant and about $30. Also looking at other options. I could make a divider with a dense cardboard and roofing felt and jute.

Sign material - Corplas, corrugated plastic. You can get it in black and various thicknesses from like 2mm to 8 or 10mm. That would be a good option in place of the .100" black chipboard like the factory used.

Yes @71TA, that's what they were showing me. About $35 for a 4'×8' sheet is what they quoted me. I can just add jute and use my cardboard template for fitting it.
