You can get Maine plates legally - much much cheaper. Been using them for years- 5 years for $96 dollars- even transferable- Have to pay a one time $20 fee for MVA power of attorney I think. Staab agency Jefferson Maine- google them. totally legal. That why you see so many Maine plates on trailers

That will cause more people to leave the state, those people will move to other states that are doing well, they will then vote for the same type of people who screwed up the first state, that state will be ruined and they will repeat the process. They are like locust, flocking, destroying, moving on. Yup! Worked it’s way up from California to Oregon and Washington State. Colorado going. Even Texas at risk, Austin being the epicenter...

The only reason there are two parties is one side can't steal all the money. The only difference is who they pay a little back to. As long as people have no problem with who they vote for spending like crazy and complain the other side is doing the same thing. Nothing will change. The whole time you're pointing fingers at each other they're both stealing us blind. No different that baseball NL or AL they play for whoever is paying them and have no trouble changing teams for more money. And just like baseball if they're on your team you love them and if they aren't or leave you hate em.
When they're in session here and out it the bars without a name tag or microphone in front of them you don't know who's who. Most are best friends in private. They trade votes across the isle so they can get up and look important when it involves their district and then return the favor. All they care about is getting reelected.

The last federal tax bill that was passed accelerated this. Previously there was no limit to the deductions residents of high tax states could make on their federal taxes from their local tax payments. The new rules put a maximum of $10k. https://smartasset.com/taxes/trumps-plan-to-eliminate-the-state-and-local-tax-deduction-explainedUnintended consequences....

Yes, it's disgusting. Both parties are supposed to be taking our taxes dollars, spending some AND saving some for future needs, just like we are supposed to do for our personal needs. NOT put a referendum on the ballot to increase sales tax every time a new building is needed, or to raise fees, etc. Anyone who has ever been an actual worker at any level of government knows that there is so much waste and fraud that it's enough to turn you off of the so-called public sector for life.
I mostly agree it's both parties, but at the risk of breaking a rule, one party's platform IS to spend more, so that certainly doesn't help. BOTH parties want to line their own pockets FIRST, with VERY few exceptions. The answer is never to cut costs, it's always to raise revenue.
Facts are stubborn things.

I have a few friends who’ve moved to TN in recent years. Sounds attractive there but isn’t booze expensive/liquor only at government stores? Just an example of how a state digs itself into an impossible hole. An old friend of mines dad was a high school teacher. My friend was telling me recently that his dad, who is now around 90 years old, has been collecting a pension for more years than years he taught. And with his government pensions annual cost of living increases, his dad’s annual pension payments are far more than his income when he was working ever were. To add insult to injury, the pensions are based on the average of the last 3 years income, and a game the school districts like to do, is give teachers approaching retirement really big raises their final years to boost their impending pension payments. How nice of them, just send the bill to the taxpayers. And after it started becoming very apparent this pension burden isn’t going to be sustainable, the legislators shrugged their shoulders and said the state constitution guarantees that promised state pension payments can never be decreased, so there is nothing they can do. I guess they better start building mints and printing currency, because printing money is the only way they are going to be able to get enough money to meet their state constitution required obligations! I look forward to sitting on my front porch in another state watching the state collapse from a comfortable distance!
They have booze at independent stores in TN. Beer is a lot more expensive than in Michigan, its about $20 for a 24 pack of a lot of name brands where you could get a 30 of the same beer for $16 in MI anyway. My parents live in Sumner county (northeast of Nashville) and huge amounts of people have moved in since they moved there in 2009. Housing values are actually starting to get kinda stupid there, when my parents moved there it was really affordable. It's not a bad place but there's going to be an infrastructure bomb because it's way too full at this point. They are also seemingly terrible at planning road networks, building and maintaining them. The roads look more like Michigan every year. We tried going to the grocery store on a Saturday, there had to be 600 people in Kroger, barely a parking spot available.

When everyone moves to TN, or wherever they think things are better, they soon find the road and public water and sewer and every other public infrastructure is too small, and too outdated to accommodate all the new habitants and the current federal requirements, so they will be forced to bring everything up to standards they probably haven't been meeting for the last 20 years, let alone the modern government improved standards. Once you get the government involved with public improvements, everything gets costly. The states don't have the money required to meet the new needs, so guess how they have to pay to cover those needs? Yep, they borrow based on future estimated state income levels, and the only way they can do that is to somehow show the state population is increasing, or there will be an increase in the state taxes and fees. Lets use the town I live in. We have had a public water utility for well over 100 years. When the system was originally designed, it was expected to support a city of around 5,000-6,000 people. Provisions were built into the project to continue the system upkeep. Somewhere around 1950, the city exceeded the 6,000 population, but there was money in the fund to add the needed capacity, so no fees were increased. Everyone was happy. Somewhere around the early 70s the population exceeded 25,000, so the system was upgraded again, but this time they floated a bond to pay for the improvements, and make a few repairs to the original system. By this time, the built in system up keep funds were pretty well gone, but it was OK because we now had a bond to perform some upkeep, and to fund the enlarged capacity. The bond hurt a little, but it had an expiration date, so it wasn't too bad. Somewhere around 2000 the original system was beginning to fail. It had actually exceeded the original life expectancy, but there were no funds available to repair the system. Another bond, but this one was to replace some of the oldest parts of the original system. They saved a fortune by replacing the part they did with material with a 50 year life expectancy instead of the 100 year life expectancy like the original stuff was. Somewhere around 2010, the fed came in and determined the water & sewer system was not up to the new and improved standards laid out be the fed gov. A large portion of the system needed to be replaced immediately. Of course there are no funds to do such a thing, so those in power were forced to get another bond to pay for the ned fed required system. They also thought they should add a fund to provide future system replacements. Then to add insult, the decided to add another fee to cover the cost of repair for the now 20 year old system installed in 2000. The average water bill in our town went from around $25/month to a minimum of $75 a month. The cost of the new fed enforced system was in the millions, and its all on a bond based on future population expectations, but the problem is, they expected the population to grow, but it is shrinking at an alarming rate. They are likely going to have to ask for another bond to pay additional interest on the current bond, because there isn't enough "extra" money in the city budget to cover the shortcoming on the original bond issue. The circle goes around and around. Gene

Properties I am looking at are not near a city, I will never live in a city again! Sure I will have well and septic issues, but they will be on me to fix, not the politicians! I will miss the awesome water we have here, I have never needed a water softener it is that good. But I want to move away from people and only see them when I want...

The politicians and your septic and well ? I’m surprised that the Michigan poli-leaches have at least almost out done the ones in Illinois! Around 2014 or so those proposed trying to charge AND TAX homeowners who had a well on their property!

I forgot to mention the water bill in Chicago. (Lead infested, over chlorinated city water).
In 1996 it was $180 a year
In 2019 it was $1210 for the year.
And the Mayor and Governor are wondering why Illinois is losing residents at a record rate?
