I had the aluminum center section in my Duster for more than 2 decades. It would still break a ring gear though. When I put a pro gear in it I never had another problem. Many hard trans brake launches on it. I used it in the Scamp when I built that car. The Duster was right at 3000 pounds and the Scamp was 2700.

To the OP, I understand your particular situation wanting to make the 8.75 work b/c you've already invested a lot in the housing and all. Not questioning that.
Just saying...one can build a complete Dana 60 from a truck housing for close to what it costs to build one of these aluminum 8.75 centersections and have a rearend that most cars will never break. The 9" is a little more expensive, but worth it IMO, especially when you get faster.

Aren't those about as rare as the aluminum center section this post started with? ....and I’m still a moron running a Mopar trans so gear breakage = trans tear down and inspect. S60 was one of the best mods I’ve done, so I have no knowledge on how to make a 8.75 live..... but I know how to kill em!

I have a couple prototype aluminum 742 and 489 8.75" castings, but the production version is not available yet. If you are looking for strength, I recommend my nodular iron 489 case with HD forged steel caps. It seems to me that what breaks the 8-3/4 is when the case deflects in the housing, distorting the relationship from axle centerline to case centerline. A backbrace will help hold the axles true, but the case can still distort the front of the housing. I This allows the axles to pry against the diff / spool and cause the ring gear and pinion to lose their proper relationship. If this is true, then it seems you could help this issue by triangulating the front of the case to the housing at a point out toward the spring perches. A few years ago I drew up plans for a threaded rod with heim joints from the snubber perch to an outboard point on the face of the housing. My thought was that this could control the case deflection in the housing to some extent, thus keeping the axles square to the case.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? The above partly answers the OP's previous question he asked. My thinking, looking at the OEM entire housing solution, the cantilevered front housing flange seemed to be the most flexible item, and why I tried to tie it into the back side of the housing,, and if the back side has a brace, so much the better.
