I have a mild 440 that I built for my ramcharger and I believe it’s capable of more power and torque. I used a mild cam that I don’t feel is idea but at the time I had it. The engine made 490@5200 and 553tq@4100. Combo is
Stock stroke
9.8 to 1
Mild ported sidewinders
230/239@050 .520/.535 hyd. Roller on 112 lsa
Rpm intake
1 3/4 headers
I’m considering a cam regrind or new cam. I’m thinking adding 10 degrees and tightening it up to 110 if that’s possible
Or would something like the trick flow 243@050 .600 on 108 pick it up a bunch? I don’t want to lose torque but if it moves up the rpm range I’m ok with it. I’ll add some converter. Also fwiw truck is 4300 lbs has 4.88 and 36” tire. What are your thoughts?

Is it running through Mufflers, complete exhaust ? Have you run it at the track yet ?

Running 3” duals with Flowmaster mufflers. I haven’t had a chance to run it yet. It’s more of a street/snow/sand toy but I do plan to race it at my local track occasionally.

Remember HP is just a number, are you happy the way it drives & runs ? bigger cam makes it less driver friendly, in my experience Chambered flowmasters have hurt power on some of my stuff, although you have a 112 lsa cam so its a toss up.

I’m not unhappy by any means, but I want it to run to its potential. I built it with forged pistons, and scat h-beams so that I could throw more at it when the time comes. It seems to fall off pretty fast after 5k rpm. If I can add 30-50hp and not lose much torque by doing a cam regrind I would like to do that. I don’t drive it all that much, and I’m not afraid of big Camshafts. Of course I’d like my power brakes to work.
The current cam was ground for a motorhome engine with stock 440source heads. I’d like something that optimizes the combo more.

I have some ideas on a cam, But would suggest Talking to Dwayne, also get some straight through mufflers. Magna flow, Dyna Max

Following....

I am putting my ramcharger together right now with 5.38's and 38's, I have a clean slate to work with engine wise right now, thinking 512 with TF270's, I have 2" fenderwell headers.

I’d love to talk to Duane but I plan to use Oregon cam grinders this time where I got the cam from originally.
I normally use Dwayne now days when I need a custom cam though. I may still change my mind and give him a call but I don’t plan to do this until this spring. That’s if it’s decided it’s worthwhile.
